Lopey camshaft?

Alrighty, Ima go ahead and admitt it. I know nothing of picking out a cam for a computer controlled vehicle. All I am after is the sound, maybe a single pattern, low lobe seperation, below .500 lift. Let me know what you think. I ran a crane 274 energizer in the carbed engine but I have know idea if it will work with the TPI, I love the way she sounds though!

Yeah I used the search, lol.

well tenpin.....you and I have MAF and he is dealing with SD....while that is cool, you need to know prom tuning. I don't know, maybe you know your stuff, but SD is alot more sincitive to that kind of change... your talking about a radical change in engine vacuum and fueling demands...

i have the cc306... pretty darn big (not huge) 230 244 @.050 on a 112

it sounds lopey at 1000 idle
and down right choppy at 650-750 in gear

I had to totally stupifiy my O2 sensor
swing points down to like .250 volts
just to get it to stop smelling like a gas station...lol

If you stay under 500 lift, under 220 duration and 112+ LSA there's a chance the cam will agree with your PCM tuning with some increased fuel pressure. I did a 110 LSA cam with a TBI on top years back before I knew much and it would run great until the 02 sensor came online then it would die repeatedly, it was a horrible experience I tell you now. It would be beneficial all around to get into prom tuning, but you can get away with a little on what you have. I'm sure some of the members on here will chime in and tell you what you can and can't get away with. You may want to post in the prom tuning board and see if you get any responses there. Good luck on the build.

TPI's do not like really lopey cams. Messes up the resononace of the runner tuning and kills your airflow on the low end.

I'm looking at cams bigger than the CC 306 But of course I'm not planning on using the TPI intake either, just the block and computer pretty much....so I guess it won't really be TPI anymore. However, I will have to deal with tuning.

Well I plan on sending the Prom to Street & Performance and have then do the tuning for me so I am not worried about that at all. Thanks for the replys I will keep looking around.

CraneCams

Theres the cam I have and would like to use. Its a single pattern, 218 duration, .450" lift, and if I remember correctly 110 LSA. What do you think, think she will be alright cause the cam sounds so badass I dont wanna have to trash it!

If you have SD TPI (1990-1992) you need a hydraulic roller cam. That cam is a flat tappet and won't work with your setup.

Block is a '76 4 bolt main block, with a SD TPI up top. Engine was origionally my carbed drag race engine, but now im going to put it in my show truck. So I'm looking to keep it flat tappet for budget reasons. Thanks though.

They shouldn't...TBI engines are flat tappet.
