wiring harness?

who sells wiring harnesses that are plug and play besides painless wiring for a maf swap? have the factory harnes but don't want to use a 20 year old pos.

If you want plug and play, your only choice is another used factory harness. A painless, or any other brand for that matter, is far from plug and play. You still have to tear apart your original harness to reuse alot of those circuits in conjunction with a new harness.

Painless is plug and play, as far as the engine is concerned.

Its a bit trickier if u want all accesories and smog stuff to work.

Many places make custom harnesses to whatever u desire, it will prolly be double what the painless will cost.

We might be able to prod u on a little further if u told us exactly what you are tyring to accomplish?

He has built me a couple harness' and they worked great, and looked really neat. I had him to build the last one with heated O2 sensor wiring. I think they cost about 225-240 or so.
He just built me a OBDII harness a couple months ago for Ramjet/4L60E streetrod project. Same good quality.

thanks for the replies, should have been more clear. It is going in an 82 z28 body that i pickup for 200 bones last week. i did the swap a few years ago with a 383 in a 70 z28 that i had a c4 vette rear suspension under i used a painless harness and it was pretty simple to get going. just wondering if there were any other harnesses to choose from.

Painless is plug and play, as far as the engine is concerned.
Pretty much any harness is going to be plug and play with regards to hooking up to the engine, but thats not the problem for most people. By the time you figure in how long it takes the average person to dig through wiring diagrams to hook up their harness to the 15 pin clear dash connector, and pull part of their old harness to reuse the wiring for the oil pressure sender, tach, coolant temp sender, power supplies, etc... I don't think that falls under plug and play.

We build custom TPI harnesses frequently, and barely anyone that we speak with on the phone is aware of what is involved exactly in wiring up a thirdgen with a stand alone harness.

For a carbed street rod or hot rod that already has the alternator, starter, gauge senders wired up, a stand alone harness is the best available option. For a thirdgen that has all these circuits incorporated into the factory harness, a stand alone harness is more work/ troublesome for the average person to install and make everything work properly.

S10Wildside also makes custom TPI wiring harnesses (and I'm amazed at his pricing.... we can't compete with him, lol). I haven't seen his TPI harnesses in person, but he seems to do excellent work.

His TPI harness, either MAF or MAP are really neat and easy to work with.

Exactly.

I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend. There are some 'replacement' harnesses available but they are quite a bit more expensive. Might try the route suggested above.
