TPI and cruise control hoses
Hi there. I just purchased a 1986 trans am. it is a v8 5.0 305 fuel injected engine. Transmission is automatic. I was tracking down all thehose lines and I found one hose line that goes from the plenum straight to a split hose. One end goes to the cruise control motor or gear box or whatever you call it on the driver side and i found the second hose branching off tucked to the side of the battery and is connected to nothing!!!! Does any one know the hose lines enough to help me out? I cant find any diagrams besides emission hose diagrams. I removed the battery and cannot find anything that a hose would connect to. with the ground effects in the way I can't really see underneath the fender. Any help, tips or ideas would be a BIG help.

More than likely the hose connects to the vacuum accumulator which is a large plastic container to hold vacuum in reserve for brake applications and to otherwise balance out the many items drawing vacuum from the intake at the same time. Don't disconnect it. Mine is shaped like a black plastic ball underneath the tray holding the charcoal canister and cruise control module.

ok... i wish i was able to load pictures. the emissions canister is on my passenger side and my cruise control module is on my driver side where the hanging hose is. can this vacuum accumulator be underneath the battery tray???
a.k.a., the "Orb of Power," "Sphere of Nothingness," or "Pooterball" in some circles. It should be mounted to the inner fender near the battery. You may have to unbolt a couple screws from the lower air deflector of the ground effects to get a clear view of it.
Make sure it will hold a vacuum before you close the book on it.
