Serp to V-belt???

I have an '88 or '89 350 TPI that has serpentine setup but the car I'm putting it into cannot handle the width of the stock bracket setup. So I'm changing to a v-belt pulley and bracket setup with a Sanden AC compressor and no airpump. Is the water the wrong rotation and if so, what year should I get one for? What else needs to be changed?

You will need an alternator, a steering pump, not sure if the serp one will cross over, and a water pump from an 86 or earlier and all the brackets.

Try and find parts from a passenger car, stay away from truck motors some of the brackets and maybe the water pumps are different.

If you are converting to v belt, chances are that you will need a standard rotation WP. Check for 85-86 v8 water pumps and I would upgrade to aluminium is you have the scratch for that. Double check the years, but I think most all Chevys used standard rotation long water pumps through 86. Good luck and what are you doing with the brackets?

87s also used a serp/v-belt combo, it is possible to check the rotation for those, the standard will have the grooves, reverse rotation will have a smooth surface. Just make sure your brackets will accomodate the accessories that you are using. Personally I would stay serp.

If youre running Sanden AC, might be easier (although not cheaper) to go with an aftermarket bracket setup.
