fuel pump question

got a qustion about a pump do these pump have entermintant problems when they go bad or do they just quit??i was driving down the road when it died like i just shut it off.. it finally fired back up, i finished the 200 mile trip with out problems, today i took off it done it again just like i shut it off, got it started went 4 miles done it again messed with it about 30 min it would try to rum but just sputter finally it started and went to the parts store got a relay still puel pump wouldn't run so after a a few min of messing around i turned the key, the pump ran and shut off it started and ran home with no trouble got it home hooked up a pressure gauge it primed to 45 psi what the **** is going on

its probably a ignition coil, those things are funny like that, mine would blow out when it got too hot, id sit on the side of the road for a bit, and it would start right back up no problem, id go home, drive for a few days and then same thing. took me a while before i decided to look at anything because im so cheap and dont like working on my car when im not sure whats wrong w/ it.

go get a new one, they cheap anyways, and if thats not the problem you can return it

already tried a coil
changed ignition switch
fuel pump relay

shouldn't be the problem at all but when was the last time you replaced the fuel filter?

Axle/Gears: 3.27 - 3.36 posi in both cars
I had a fuel pump go bad in my camaro a while back, first it caused the motor to not have hardly any power at WOT, it would act like the car was running out of fuel, not like an electrical problem such as an ignition problem that simply shuts the motor off. I hooked the fuel pressure gauge up and taped it to the window and drove the car and watched the fuel pressure. Nailed the problem, pressure would go down drastically. If your fuel pump is bad be sure to buy a real GM pump, not some cheap deal sold by car parts chain stores. Or buy a good well known aftermarket pump.
