Looking To Build TPI, Help Picking A Block

I’m looking to start building a 91 TPI, 377, roller cam, 4bolt. Id like some help picking out a block to base from.

From my findings, not all camaro 350’s were 4bolts, the truck ones depend on the rest of the truck options. I know between 86/87 they switched to centerbolt heads. I’m guessing I want that option. Now, the main one. I read that somewhere in there, gm did start putting roller engines in the trucks in 96/97. Did they ever offer that on a camaro engine? To early for a vette engine I guess?

Am I assuming right that for the application I am wanting to base off of, I’m needing a truck block, and then try to hunt down some L98 centerbolt heads.

Any other good choices for me to look for?

I think the best ones are the late Vortex truck blocks with 4 bolt mains. Dyno Don managed to snag one for my latest build up. I think he paid $200 for it. Nice looking block.

A 377 can be gotten either way.

Concerning the block, personally, I prefer to start with new stuff, so I would buy a ZZ4 block to start your project. ZZ4 blocks are 4 bolt mains, are drilled for the ECM sensors, and are direct replacement block for the common 2 bolt L98 blocks.

Id love to start with a new block. But I cant afford that at once hit. I'm going to have to piece this together over about a year.

Thats fine, find a seasoned Corvette block from '87 to ??, I think these are 4 bolt main blocks. Please check if these blocks are truely 4 bolt mains. This block would make a great fundation for your project and cost less than a new block.

There was an 86 vette L98 on ebay when I made the post. It was only a 2bolt main.

I'm finding varying info on which L98's were/werent 4bolt, so yes I will require whoever to do a visual verification. I'm also being told the vortec heads flow much better then the alumn L98's. Not sure which way to sway there.

Thanks for all the info, I know which blocks I can look for now.

No L-98 350's were 4-bolt mains. You need to get a 3/4 ton or heaver truck to get a 4 bolt main roller block. I am not sure if the 96 to 99 vortec truck engines are 4-bolt main.

The other option is to have the 2-bolt main converted to a 4-bolt main or just use the 2-bolt main block. A 2-bolt main block can put up with 500 HP.
