What do you guys think of this 1990 Firebird Formula?

Guy is in Florida and he is selling this what appears to be immaculate 1990 Formula 5spd LB9.

I don't know if the pics do this car justice, but he seems to be selling it at a pretty decent price. I contacted him and asked him about shipping to my house and he said he would gladly accomodate me by knocking off 200 dollars.

It has 105k miles, and the entire car was garage kept throughout it's entire life.

The pics can be seen here http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/ca...es-3800-a.html

I am sort of a newbie about buying cars from out of state, but it looks to be a pretty good car. Very clean, inside and out.

I think it would make an adequate daily driver for me, it may not be very fast, but it will most certainly get the job done.

WS6 suspension, the lot.

Let me know what you guys think?

Any comments are appreciated.

Looks like a very nice car. The cracked wing is a very common problem. I dont dig the light blue engine color I like it. Whats the asking price?

$3500 is a good price for 3rd gen with 100k miles and in nice condition...

if i were you, id buy it... swap the longblock out with a 350 or 383 and put the tpi back on there, find a T-56 and put it in there... make some stupid torque :P

I am waiting for his email reply.

However, as much as i loved my 3rd gen Camaro, it really became a pain in the *** as it got older.

Now to be fair, the camaro I had was not taken care of by its previous owner, it was trashed, it went without oil a couple of times, the radiator blew yet he still drove it.

In a way, it was definitely a trooper, but the car became a money pit when it hit 115k miles.

I can't go any worse than the Camaro, but one of the main problems I had with the Camaro was the smoke on start up.

This was due to bad seals, and I was told that it was a common problem for Fbody vehicles after they hit 100k.

This formula I may or may not purchase has the LB9, now if I remember correctly wasn't there an engine that was built with better seals to prolong their life? I cannot remember if it was the LB9 or not.

And about how much hp does an LB9 have and if I am somewhat good at a stick, what should I do in the 1/4 mile. It is a stock car for as much as I know, and I plan on adding full exhaust, and intake. That'll be pretty much it.

I don't know much about the T5s, but anything was better than the trash 700R4 I owned. I will not powershift it, and I will not abuse the tranny.

Anyway, would I have to worry about seals, and smoke with this car? It really is very pretty, it doesn't look to be trashed in the slighest sense, and the guy really took care of it.

Another option I have is to skip this beauty and wait for an LT1, but if I can find a perfect 3rd gen formy for this much, I don't see why not.

All the LT1s are overpriced anyway, and the ones that are below 6k, are complete trash with over 150k miles and the exterior falling apart.

EDIT: Would a T56 mate to a 350/383 TPI? I didn't know that they could. My original intention with the camaro was to swap out the motor in favor of an LT1 but it would have had to remain automatic.

Atleast with this car I already have the manual components in, so it shouldnt be as much of a hassle. Still a thought though, how does the TPI rank up against the 305 TBI?

I know its probably like 8 seconds faster, but I mean as in terms of reliability.

a 90 SD 305 LB9 5 Speed will hang just as good to a L98 350 Auto.

he is actually selling it on the boards here as well.

Damn, what a nice car. If I get that one, it will be my cherishable item.

Apparently it had a recent valve job, so I think I am set.

I am definitely aiming for this vehicle.

It does'nt look like it has the air tubes on the exhaust for the air pump. If you have emissions/smog with a visual you will have to put that stuff back on.

Or just go to a backwoods shop. We have visual and I have yet to have my hood opened on any vehicle.

That's a great looking car. You don't see many Formulas that clean. I really like the color too. Looks like a good find!

I have decided to skip on this one. I found a 96' formula M6 with about 89k miles for 3400 dollars. The body looks in decent shape aside from the clear coat coming off from the roof.

Engine and interior look clean however.

But I have to give props to that guy on a very clean formula. That is one nice car and if I was collecting them, I would've jumped on it.
