CAN A BAD CTS CAUSE FLOODING,HARD RESTART??

UNPLUGGED CTS AND STARTED CAR RAN LIKE CRAP BUT IT STARTED BACK UP WITH EASE. PLUGGED IN I HAVE TO START IMMEDIATLEY AFTER SHUTTING OFF. IF I WAIT MORE THAN 10 SECONDS I HAVE TO HOLD THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR(WHEN CTS IS HOOKED UP. ALSO HAVE CODE 33. CAN THIS BE BECAUSE OF THE CTS(CODE 15)READING TOO LOW?

Yes it can, It tells the ecm what temperture it is, Ecm looks at the fuel/temp table and says 31 degreees ok this much fuel, BUT i believe if you unhook it or it go's bad its -65 So, Itll make it flood and run rich but i believe they can fail the other way

Oh, sure. My 91 TBI Blazer flat out wouldn't start if you had the CTS unplugged on a warm day (reading dead-cold: -40F). It would give a little kick and then immediately flood out.

Yeah, I had a CTS go out on me while driving 45 mph. Started running like absolute crap, I could see the clouds of white smoke in the rear view mirror. Engine didnt respond to throttle at all, and it was making the whole car shake. After about 10 second of this crap it stalled and wouldn't restart.

I watched the injectors while cranking and they would go wide open, one or two cranks and the whole throttle body was filled up with fuel like a bowl and over flowing onto the intake manifold. Scary.

When my roc was running this pass summer, It would start cold very well. But I had problems were it would be hard to start after running say 5-10 minutes. Would the CTS also affect this issue or is it something else?

i'm not sure if my problem is related but i am curious if it is. and if not any ideas would be great.

i have a 1986 trans am, TPI Fuel injected 305 5.0 engine

its my third car and in project mode. it has improved grealty sicne i purchased it 6months ago.

but for the life of me i cannot get it to stay running on the first try.

i turn it on and first time its stutters and stalls withn 5-10 seconds like its gasping for fuel or air.

i can immediately turn it a second time and it turns right on and stays on and idles around 900-1000. i have to set my idle but any ideas maybe same problem you got? or bad fuel reglator fuel pump? im not quite sure because once it stays on the second time it runs great. jsut curious if its a sign of soemthing really wrong.

Possibly your cold start (9th injector in the middle of driver's side of plenum)
is not working. it may be electrical connection, or plugged/faulty injector.
Check for voltage at cold start injector when cranking it from dead cold.

does the cold start injector do anythign during normal engine operation once the engine is started and driving for a while or is it connected to shut off and let the rest of the injectors do the work?

ill check the voltage but also going to be puting some serious serious cleaning stuff in the fuel once spring comes designed to eat and clean anything built up or plugged up in the engine. the stp stuff didnt really do it for me.

worst case senario i'll pay the 300 to replace all my injectors which one will happen anyway.

thanks for the suggestion ill get right on it.

Re: CAN A BAD CTS CAUSE FLOODING,HARD RESTART??

bringing back a old thread, i know. currently, im having the same problem with my car. it threw a code 14, and i replaced the coolant temp sensor in the front of the engine. that didnt help. took it to a mechanic and he says its either a injector stuck open flooding, or the cold start injector is junk.

on start up cold, you have to hold the accelarator down. once it fires up, it smells like someone dumped a gallon of gas in the passenger compartment. when the engine is warm, its basically the same thing, although it only happens once in a while.

probably shouldnt have to say this, but be careful with throwing fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank. some are so aggresive that it'll eat the terne in the gastank.

Re: CAN A BAD CTS CAUSE FLOODING,HARD RESTART??

is the CTS its on part or is it built into the ecm? and if not where the heck is it besides that connector on the passenger side of the engine bay?

i believe theres one in the passenger side of the cylinder head, one in the front of the block on the intake manifold.

the cts is in the front of the intake manifold, under the Thermostat housing, easy to spot
