what can i do with my 305?

i know there is a similar thread,, but this one is more about size

parts i want so far are vortec truck heads, and lt4 hotcam

can i stroke and bore this? or is a 305 limited?

i heard small blocks can go up to a 427 c.i
i really want to do this,,, and make it look like a slightly spruced up 5.0?

so the question is,,,, what can i do to it? or do i need to start somewhere else?

Well your not gonna hit 427 on a 305 block. I think safely the most u can bore those is like .030 over no? As far as looks, all small blocks appear the same on the outside. So pretty much if your lookin for big inches your gonna need a different block.

yeah .030 will make it a 310
.060 will make it a 315, but thats going too far with a 305.

It your going to spend that getting it bored, buy a different motor.

can stroke and bore to 335 or so. thats bout it.

vortec heads and hot cam will be a good match for a 305 but i'd go holley stealth ram to let that motor breathe. TPI will choke that hotcam too much.

else go siamessed SLP runners and siamese the base some to gain some rpms. hotcam wants rpms

externally a 305 looks the same as a 350... so if your going to try and get into the shortblock might as well spend 50$ to get a 350 block and build that.

No one would know that it isnt the stock 305 but you...

all depends on what your looking for. I enjoy driving my lil 305. I put alot into mine. But everything I did I can swap to a 350 if I find one. But Im in no hurry, my motor runs great.
If your looking for a 12 sec car, it would be alot easier to build a 350 to get there.
If your looking for something with a little pep and good on gas, do a little to the 305.
Like I said everything I did to my 305....I can swap to a 350. So I'm not losing money.

ya, but can you keep the same pistons?

so im guessing i can't throw in a "longer throwing" crank then stock, cuz the crank is the only thing in my motor that i need to replace,,, and i may as well go big

Re: what can i do with my 305?

bigger crank may require external balancing

If you use a 3.73 crank with 400 rods and not 350 rods you should be able to keep your stock compression height (335) I'd probably go forced induction before I went to a stroker though.
