Lifter tap

I have a l98 with a rebuild about a year ago and now the lifters tap(flat tappet hydraulic) when i first start the car it started doing it only in the morning but now it does it every time i start the car. The rockers are adjusted fine and the car runs great but i cant figure out what to do,i have thought about just getting a new cam in lifter kit or maybe getting 1.5 rr but i wanted to get some advice first, thanks for any help you can give me.

From the limited information I would just ssay your lifter(s) are bleeding down.

Does it happen all the time...or just when it has sat for a while with the engine off? Just one tap, or all of them?
Taking your word that the valve lash has been set correctly.
What brand of lifters are you using?
Have you placed the location of the tap(s) in the valvetrain or within the engine block?
Ever change your oil?

are you positive it's a lifter tap? and header/manifold leak can sound an awful lot like a lifter tap.

1)yes i change the oil every 2500 miles
2)yes the lash is correct
3)dont know what brand they are i would say cheap,i had National Cylinder
Head build it and they put in the wrong cam but i didnt have time to wait i needed my car back on the road-learn from my mistake
4)i have the soft aluminum header gaskets and there not leaking
5)i hope its not my injectors,if so does that mean there going bad because they havent always been like that?

Yeah, my 305 had 19# stock ones and I jummed up to 24# LT1 injectors.
I think the 350 came with 22# injectors.

What if its not my injectors and it is my lifters that means i would have to get a new cam also(its a flat tappet cam)that would suck because if i do i want to go back to a roller cam and there not cheap

If its only tapping at start up and goes away, then I wouldn't worry about. If it bothers you, maybe use a heavier weight oil to see if that will help it from bleeding down. Just convert to roller when you get the opportunity.

Maybe others would have a different opinion, though.

I put in 20w-50 last week when i had my oil changed it raised my oil pressure but it didnt stop the tap=( i would like to go back to roller but i have a baby due in 11 days so i cant spend to much i just dont want it to wibe a lobe or for the computer to be pulling out timing that would defeat the purpose of the cam
