Car cuts off when put into gear

This just started today and i have not changed much at all. When I put the car in reverse to pull out of the garage it cut off, then I start it back up and try it again and the same thing. The only way I can get out of my garage is to give it gas while I'm putting it in gear. This doesnt happen when I'm going from park to drive, only from park to reverse. Could this be my fuel pump going south or an electrical sensor issue. By the way, this is an 87 305 TPI motor with minimal mods.

I had that same problem ; check for vacuum leaks and faulty egr valve. It resolved after I corrected these problems.
