89 Corvette L98 Mods

Hello, Im fairly new to this website and I am working on semi-restoring a 88 trans am gta. I just wanted to say first off this is a great site, and thanks for your time in any responses I recieve. Ok here goes, I am looking to modify my 89 vette motor before I drop in into my GTA, I will be using a T5 trans so if this is a problem I will need to know what max hp the t5 can withstand. I have done a lot of the tech mods on the homepage of this site already. So far this is my setup89 vette motor -89,000 milescustom y cold air intakemodded MAF sensorStock aluminum heads160 degree thermostatedelbrock shorty headers3 inch flowmaster exhaustbored upper intake and runnersI am removing the ac and smog pumpWhat I was looking into was the following:aluminum flywheelaluminum driveshaft or maybe carbon fiber if availableshort throw shifter (5.0 I know its not engine related)hypertech chip (whats the difference between stage 1,2,3,4,etc?)electric water pumpcam and liftersintake manifold (I weld and have access to a CNC so I thought I might try my luck, does anyone know of any performance charts with all the different intakes, runners, and throttle bodies?)runnersthrottle bodyI just am looking for some overall advice, if need be I can buy an ls1/ls6 or ls7 and a t56 trans, but I am really looking for something close to stock.

Hmmm.
Use a 180 thermostat and go start learning how to burn your own chips. DIY Prom Tuning board...or somewhere like www.moates.net

Aluminum flywheel not too great for the street, better for track.

performance charts are all over the place. try the sticky at the top of this TPI board regarding the TPI shootout. Do some searches for grumpyvette, where he lists different tables and such. I like the potential of Holley Stealth Ram, Mini-Ram. AutoXing I'm not sure, might be better off with something like the SuperRam.

I'd love to be able to throw an LS7 into my 69 Camaro. The insane power capability...someday. It's Stock Chevrolet !!

Horsepower difference is no more than 5-10, and that's mostly in the Corvette's better exhaust setup. The compression however, is up to a full point higher because of the aluminum heads 58cc chamber compared to the iron heads 64cc chamber.
Do not buy a generic off-the-shelf chip from Hypertech or JET or those kind. The most they do is give you 5 more degrees of timing and turn the fans on sooner. Everything else is stock.

yes its tpi, thanks for the offer, but I have many tools at my disposal to port ad polish, currently Im working on a couple of custom intake maifolds(upper) using my tig welder ad some spare alum and SS, I might try runners next.

Back to the main concern, any other ideas??

^^You should definitely get some pics up of that.

Best bet for driveshafts would be to steal an alum one off a 4th gen. Carbon DS's are very spendy.

Hypertech chips are crap. Period; dont waste your money. (get a dyno tune or something custom)

A throttle body will not help you. The stock one isnt a restriction until your already running good heads and cam. (400 rwhp or so)

I'm a vette owner myself.. have an 1987 Roadster. I'm not sure if you are familiar with www.corvetteforum.com If so then go to the c4 tech section and post a thread up. There is a transmisson guru on that site by the forum name of PeteK. He can help answer all your questions on your transmission needs.
