Low on power now...

Alright I've had an exhaust leak at the passenger side manifold for a while now. I finally fixed it and in order to get the manifold off I had to remove the A.I.R tubes, the spark plug wires, and that black "thing" that has three of the A.I.R hoses and two electrical connections on it. Well now that I put everything back together, the leak was fixed, but now it runs weak. The idle is alittle lower and surges quite a bit. When I accelarete I can't even break the tires loose and it takes a while to shift, but when it shifts it shifts really firm, better then before. The car used to run strong, what do you think happened?

Your computer might need to adjust itself again since you do not have that leak anymore.

Not really sure, im still learning the old OBD1 since i bought mine.

It seems like my gas nileage went down also and I can smell gas a little stronger then before. Well I checked the timing just to be sure and its a 6* btdc. How long does it usually take for the ecm to adjust?

Specially the line going to your Fuel pressure regulator.
Also make sure you didnt crack any lines.

Did you disconnect your battery when you fixed your leak?

I didn't disconnect the battery, was I suppose to? Man its running really rich its guzzling gas like theres no tommorow and the smell can almost knock me out. I'm gonna check all the vaccum lines right now when I go outside. Its idling better though. In drive it idles at 500rpm really stable.

I'M FREAKING RETARDED!!! I found out what is was. When I put the spark plug cables back on I switched the 6 and 8. I can't belive it ran as good as it did with those cables switched. I could have swore I checked it. Maybe it was cuz I was tired that I overlooked it.

Hey mistakes happen. Just be glad you found out what it was. Glad it was nothing serious.

Well its running like it was before, which i think is still a little on the rich side. What would cause it to run rich?
