TPI star bolts

alright, quick question.

can i get a new set of these bolts from GM? ...or anywhere for that matter?

one of the star bolts that connects the runners to the plenum is pretty stripped out and i am completely missing another one. although there is no leak i would most definitely like to have that bolt in. help!

thanks guys!

Torx bolts? You could get new ones from a dealer, or any nut and bolt supplier. You don't have to stay with torx heads if you don't want to, an allen socket head would work, too.

I think they sell a complete kit on Ebay thats all stainless steel.

I was going to get one just to dress up my motor a little bit.

Ugh, TORX suck!!!!! ....I replaced EVERY single one on my motor. But yeah, they should be easy to find.

....For the TPI, I used stainless allen bolts. I honestly can't remember where I got 'em from, but it was a kit.

Fair prices on shipping and very good prices on the hardware you need. Even some custom aluminum hold downs and brackets.

you shouldnt be buying stainless bolts for an engine that has to heat up and cool down all the time. stainless is just about the most UNstable metal, and will just break under certian conditions. going to your local bolt store wont work either unless you custom order some grade 10.9 bolts. going to the dealer is the best bet because they will order the correct bolts, correct length, and itll only take a day or 2. your bolt store may take a week, and they probably order the wrong stuff because theyve never seen grade 10.9 (metric grade) with a standard thread.

There's nothing special about the grade of the factory intake bolts, and they see little stress, thermal or otherwise. Replacing them with stainless is fine.

Bolts that are stressed, like rod bolts, head bolts, etc. you'll never find in garden-variety stainless.

The ones I bought were either grade 8 or higher. Should be enough to keep together an intake and manifold.

I tried getting these bolts from the dealer for my 87 vette and was told they have been discontinued. So these bolts are the same for the 3rd Gens as well.

if the dealership said that they you ask for another guy because he probably used to work at the nissan dealership :P

and if you decide to use stainless, make sure to either coat the threads with gear oil, or anti-sieze (copper is preferred for its thermal properties). the diss-similar metals will bond together from the heat, and without protection, will corrode and fuse together. same goes for aluminum heads and steel bolts.
