What are the small pin holes in my intake for

The reason I ask is that I realised I'm getting aluminum shavings in them while porting it. That can't be good, anyone know how I can clean this out?

Its the EGR passage.

When it comes thru from the heads(our cars) or intake (vettes) it goes thru the valve and into those small holes as u call them.
