How big is too big for valves?

I am looking to put a set of aluminum heads on my 1987 TPI 305 w/T5 camaro. I have searched the boards and read on one that 2.02 valves were too big for the 305. Don't remember the reason this second. I found these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...7439850&rd=1,1

But I don't want to over do it. I already have an opened up intake system with ported plenum, AS&M runners and ported intake base also ported throttle body and homemade ram air system, Ceramic coated Edelbrock headers, y-pipe, hi-flow cat and Edelbrock 3inch cat back system for the exhaust. Also planning better ignition system, bigger injectors and Adj. fuel pressure regulator.

Any other suggestions would be helpful as long as it isn't put in a 350. The 350 will come when the 305 dies, but it has a lot of life left in it. Plus I don't want to tear up my T5 with a modified 350.

There is a formula that you should not exceed 52% of the bore diameter for the intake valve. Otherewise you will run into what is called valve shrouding.

ditto what he said...

and 2.02 valves will contact the cyl wall in a 305,unless you notch them for clearance.

a 1.94 valve is PLENTY for a 305. i had a roller 305 block,carbed with heavily ported 416 heads with 1.94 valves,and a comp xe270 something cam...it put down 271rwhp in a 85 t5 transam,not to bad for an extreme budget build.

1.94/1.55 are as big as you could go on a 305.

Re: How big is too big for valves?

Thanks guys. That's exactly what I need to know. I imagine notching the cyl walls would be a huge pain in the a$$.
