Cam assesment
Cam assesment
Ive decided that im going to upgrade my top end on my 86 iroc.
Im going with the holy AFR 195's(#1040) for my heads but im still looking for a good cam. I asked AFR for a Cam they reccomend and they told me the CompCam XR288HR has had good results for a street/strip application. Ill prolly give Comp a call on Friday to see what they would reccomend also.
After reviewing the specs on the XR288HR, it seems to me a pretty mild cam, but i have only a moderate understanding of Cam performance right now, so I may be wrong.
So ask ask you guys, do you think this cam will be suitable for FI?

Also, other specs of engine:
-Unknown year 350
-HSR
-3.73 out back
after this swap, im also doing headers, injectors, and tranny/converter when the moneys back, and having a new PROM burnt to match everything.
Thanks to anyone who replies!

Re: Cam assesment
That's a bit too much cam for a Computer Controlled FI engine. Look for one with 112 to 114 LSA.
Unless you're mostly out on the strip, I'd go with a bit less duration too for a street engine, maybe closer to 222/230 or as much as 228/236.
You better make sure that you have a roller block before buying a roller cam. Do you have to pass smog tests? If so, don't go too big...

Re: Cam assesment
Id figured that the 110 lsa was to small for a street/strip.
This cam selection is really starting to stress me out to. And i pulled the intake today and saw the "dogbones" holding the lifters in place, so theres one good thing.
