Idle/starting issue?

hey guys went to the track today. Left home everything was fine.drove 25 mins or so ran fine there did 3 runs on the track. Parked, come back car doesnt start. Jumped it left im driving home and its idling like crap. It finally dies on teh road so i pull over, get a jump, come home i have to keep my foot in it or else it dies. As soon as i took my foot off, it died. Waited and hour somebitch fired up and idled like a monster. My train of thought is headers are heating up the starter. As far as the idle goes im assuming its a 360cu on a 305 tune. Weird though it idles sweet then it gets hot and wont idle for a damn thing.

You guys think im on the right track?

Re: Idle/starting issue?

yeah before i bought my iroc it had an issue with the starter heating up and not working. the guy fixed it before i bought it and its never given me an issue since.

wrap the starter in heat shield, you can buy it at most auto parts stores. if that doesnt work then you may need to replace the starter.

as for the idling issue, there are a lot of things that could cause that. first of all i would make sure your MAF is working properly...

Re: Idle/starting issue?

Were there any error codes generated during the whole episode?

Once started and running, heat soak of the starter motor and solenoid are not an issue unless the heat is also affecting already marginal connections of the fuse links. If system voltage is normal while running, the hard start may not be a typical starter heat soak problem.

I agree. Check your ignition control module. There should be some thermal paste on the underside of it to help not short out when it gets to hot. I have seen where one will test good but fail after it gets hot. They are 23-28 bucks and comes with the paste.

Try that. I had the same problem. Drive down the road and suddenly it's like your car turned off.

let us know if that was it.
