Creating a engine to make your fellow brothers proud
I have been reading all the threads and debated over copying someones mods and seeing whos got the best overall. I basicly wanna build a engine that is reliabe and stay streetable and keep the TPI system. I wanna give a list of the mods i would like to do and this is based on a budget working for the US army. Please make the comments tasteful.
L98 short block
edelbrock centerbolt heads (202 160 60cc)
Edelbrock base intake with SLP Runners (love the slick design)
52mm tb (need FI size any ideas?)
Camshaft idea needed with no more than 575 lift with 1.6 rollor rockers, if i can get a cam package with timing gears pushrods lifters that would make it even easier)
march pulleys
Edelbrock TES headers with y-pipe
3in inter pipe 80 series flowmaster with 2 1/2in dual polish tips
the T56 is being installed next month with 3.70 gears (9 bolt rear with rear disc brakes)
Victor JR water pump
i relize the tpi engines are torque engines and not hp engines, but if i can get an idea on the cam that is perfect for this set up i would be greatly happy, also if a custom chip is needed let me know or if a reg chip from hyperchip performance can it that would be fine. Any comments or ideas would be greatly read, please understand that i am on a tight budget for the military doesnt pay that great. thanks everyone

dont, dont, DONT!!!! use hypertech! they're all hype and no tech! i had a custom chip burned by motorvation and it works brilliantly! and there are guys here that would insist you learned to burn your own!

Re: Creating a engine to make your fellow brothers proud
ok after doing somemore research, i think i finally got the ideal motor.
HSR intake set up with adjustable fuel rails, 24lbs injectors, 58 TB, SLP headers, xr276hr cam, with 1.6 rollor rockers, stock short block, with tfs 200cc 2.02 1.60 64cc heads, of course a custom prom/ecm,edelbrock 304 complete exhaust system dual exits polished tips already gonna have 97 z28 T56 swap from Hawks with 3.70 gears (9 bolt rear), slotted and drilled rotors from summit, hawks hps pads, hotckis tower brace, lower control arms, and panard bar, sway bars and subframe connectors. going with ZR1 rims (16x8) 245/50/16z tires, go ahead go with the ss hood from hawks as well with the 5inch rear spoiler, and this is all on a 89 Chevy camaro Iroc-z T-top, plan to paint it a dark cherry metallic and change the seats to 4th gen seats and make the interior completly black (leather seats)........would my stock fuel pump be enough and if i ordered a custom prom/ecu and told them all of the complete info of the engine would they be able to make it work correctly.....im aiming for at least 400hp and at least 400ftlbs of tor. ould this combo allow my dream car become a real mean machine.....thanks

Good head size and cam. I would personally change the fuel pump. New stock pump didn't keep up with mine!

Yeah your gonna have to ditch the stock fuel pump! Don't even take chances with it... It's gonna be a challenge to pull 400 horses outta that combo but it's very possible. The bigger the cam, the harder it's gonna be to tune. Especially if You go with a mail order tune. Heck,, I'll be happy to pull 400 horses outta my Vortec headed 383 with HSR, .515 .520 roller cam, 58mm TB, with short tube Headman headers. 420 should be possible with my combo.....But it'll take almost dead on tuning! DIY Prom Progamming.... "hint hint"

Re: Creating a engine to make your fellow brothers proud
ok just ran into a major problem, First im glad im finally getting responds to this, and second being away the state for so long tends to miss out on a few things back home, just found out the local gas prices back at the base jumped well over 3 dollars a gallon.... holy flocking shyt batman. Now there is no way i can build this monster and expect to have a decent mpg rating. So this is what i have in mind, I need to build on this TPI engine in two frames of mind. One, performance and two fuel milage. Now Ive seen in person small free mods and small bolt on parts allow performance as well as fuel milage. As we know now, i having a T56 trans replace my 700r, instead of having 3.70 rear gears i was thinking maybe 3.55 gears (if i can get them for a 9 bolt rear) now that will allow the cruising speed on the interstate better for the milage. Simple bolt on parts for the engine is very easy to get and allow for the motor to free up power without killing my wallet and allow better milage, i was thinking more of the lines like SLP runners K&N filter, leaving the cam stock, TES edelbrock headers and the full complete exhaust from the 304 exhaust from edelbrock as well. i may not increase my horse power to the levels i would like but at least i can increase enough that i can enjoy the cruise as well as the milage of the gas. If there is anything that i might be missing in this please, do not allow myself to make mistakes or miss out on somthing i can do, feel free to send me a message or even a reply on this thread and tell me what else i can do.... thanks
