the LT1 computer will be expecting a signal from an optispark distributor. you wont have one on the tpi motor. wont work.

Thanks, so i assume you cannot run an optispark distributor on a Gen 1 small block? What is the actual problem? If you ran an LT1 intake could you run the LT1 distributor?

I knw you can modify an LT1 intake to accept a TPI distributor so if you just didnt modify the distributor hole could you still use the LT1 distributor?

lt1 "Distributor" (Optispark) is a gen-II proprietary unit that mounts to the front of the block below the water pump.

An Optispark distributor is not even located on the intake manifold, so NO, you cant just change intakes.

The Opti distributor is located directly on the front end of the camshaft with the water pump located just above.

its a flat, crab looking distributur. it does the same thing the tpi distributor does, but its located on the front of the LT1 engine. it also has different signals going to and from the optispark in terms of computer control.

Go to the top of the page and look under the sticky OBDII We used an LS series motor harness and ECU Far superior to the LT1 era

Yeah i saw that but that was using an LS setup on a TPI.. I recently picked up a 97 LT1 dash and am trying to figure out the easiest way to do the wiring.. Maybe i could go with an LT1 motor and just use all of the 4th Gen wiring.. would prob be easier than splicing the 4th Gen dash into the 3rd Gen harnesses...

Do they make harnesses to run an LT1 motor/Dash with an LS series ECU?

Re: Did anyone run a TPI with LT1 Harness and ECU?

you can put an LT1 harness & ECM on a gen1 motor.
there is some work involved with it.
you will need to modify your distributor which would probably be the hardest part.

speartech may sell a modified distributor.
