ATTN: Speed Density 305 TPI auto owners

Please post your mods, and 1/4 mile time and trap speed. I'm curious as to what others are running. My best is 14.9@93.5mph with a 2.36 60 foot time, but that was before the rebuilt tranny and new converter. Besides the mods in my sig, I have a high flow cat and free mods.

91 Trans Am WS6
Bright White
5.0 TPI auto
Flowmaster 3" 2 chamber catback
Trans Go shiftkit
2000 stall converter

supposed 'peanut cammed' car (yeah, right)

Well James, I know you want ETs and trap speeds, both of which I don't have, but I'll shed some light on my mods and performance.

-SLP 1 5/8" Jet Hot coated headers
-Catco 3" HF cat
-Edelbrock Catback
-180* stat
-203/190 Fan switch
-Richmond 3.23s
-Torsen Posi
-MSD coil/cap/rotor/wires
-Accel U-groove shorty spark plugs
-K&N air filters
-gutted airbox
-bumped timing

I know exactly what you're getting at here too, trying to dismis the fact that SD 305/autos came with the peanut cam. While I can say that my car can hang with and beat bone stock 87-89 L98 cars, I have yet to race a 90-92 car. I'm pretty sure the 90-92 L98 would pull from me. I feel like my convertor is really tight, and I don't have the low end that the L98 has. If I had to take a guess at ET/ trap speed, I'd say 14.8-.9 @ between 93 and 95. I'm not gonna bother with this boat anchor though, this winter or spring I'm building a pretty stout 350 TPI that will make my engine look like it came out of a prizm.

Nice.... the 305 TPI is hardly a boat anchor, though. And you should be in the mid 14s with your mods at 93-96mph. Jason did your car have the tiny Y-pipe and cat on it before you switched to headers? When I had the old, clogged stock cat off, I measured the Y-pipe and the diameter was 2 inches.... makes me sick. I think that's the reason for the 5000 RPM tach - the motor can't breath beyond that. I'm probably going to install a set of Hooker Super Comps and port the TPI base and runners this winter, along with a lot of other maintainance and stuff that the car needs. My 2000 RPM stall converter allows the car to jump into its powerband much better than the stock 1600 RPM unit did. I can powerbrake from a stop and launch pretty hard. The converter just 'feels' better than the stock one did. The 90-92 L98s are very strong for the most part, with your mods you should be about even with a stock one. Good to hear from you.

Yeah my Y-pipe looked like it came out of a subaru! It and my stock cat looked to be 2". At first I thought they may have been parts store replacements, but I heard from many that they were stock. The headers definetly woke the car up, but its no rocketship. Maybe with a little tuning I could hit a 14.6-.7, but I'd be really suprised right now. I'm chasing a timing retard problem on the 1-2 shift right now. I think my knock sensor may be a little too sensitive, or I may have bumped the timing up a little too much. Also, that convertor is sucking the revs right down at the shift. I bet you noticed a big difference when you switched to the looser convertor! Over the next month or so, most of my money is going to the front end rebuild. I'm converting to 1LE brakes and installing an AGR box and pump, w/ lowering springs, all poly bushings, and MOOG chassis parts. This is really detracting from the motor/tranny fund, but hopefully they'll be here soon too! Good to see you again James.

i just thought i would say that my car stock would have been in the 14.3 to 14.4 range. my first pass at the track with this car was a 13.6. There are guys out here running bone stock l98 90 to 92 car well into the 14's some of them are low 14's matter of fact i have yet to see a 15 second speed density l98 the 305 cars run about a second slower. not bad they still got the mustang boys running for cover.

last season best corected 13.62 @102
mods

Best was 14.21@96mph this was at Maryland Intl Raceway, close to sea level and perfect weather. She runs 14.5 all day. Guess the 14.21 was just that perfect run.

A friend of mine has a '91 Z28 that had a 305TPI, A4, and 2.73 posi. He had K&N's, a Dynomax Ultra Flo cat-back, Hypertech chip, 160-degree 'stat, and an airfoil. With these mods, he ran a best of 15.03 at 90.0 mph with a 2.16 60' time. Stock tranny, exhaust manifolds/converter, and engine. Definitely a peanut-cam car. That's a very good trap speed for your car and the few mods you have. Have you taken off a valve cover to measure the cam lift?

In Firebird Buyers guide, there was some text where a 91 Formula 1LE 5speed 305 ran a 14.47@96mph bone stock.

Leo M, owner of a yellow 1992 Trans AM 1LE 305 5speed ran a 14.03 with a K&N filter. He lives in Philly. You can find him on the 1le site i believe.

My car is a 92 B4C w/ the 305 and T-5 transmission. My current mods are K&N's, gutted air box, semi-ported upper plennum, Edelbrock TES headers, Accel 300+ ignition & wires, Bosch platinum plugs, and a 3 chamber Flowmaster. The last time it was run it pulled a 14.1 at 99mph. I can't remember the 60' time.
