BEST TPI mods???
BEST TPI mods???
Okay, what are the most beneficial mods for TPI engines. What mods really emphasize the TPIs potential? Ive already got the panzee mods, but now I want some real power. So what works best...and I dont mean blowers or NOS

By heads, do you mean gettin different ones or porting/polishing the current heads. Ive heard the stock TPI heads are decent, so would a port job suffice? Ive also heard that the stock TPI intake is pretty restrictive. What is a good performance replacement?

All free mods, and EXHAUST EXHAUST EXHAUST!!! Exhaust mods (cat-back, cat, headers) are the first things you should do. On a 350 car, all free mods and full exhaust can drop your ETs by up to a full second, and it will cost under $700 for all of it.

I like SLP's stuff the best.Their parts look, and perform as good or better than the others, plus you could get their parts as an option from the factory.First though I would optimize what you already have, give a complete tune up,and change all fluids.Examples would be sparkplugs, wires, coil, cap&rotor, ignition module, and adjust timeing 8-10degBTDC.Change oxygen sensor, fuel filter, and clean injectors.Check TPS voltage(.54)and fuel pressure(48-50PSI),use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator if pressure is not,and Port intake plenum while its off.Change oil, transmission ,and differential fluids to synthetics(I use Mobil 1),and install a shift kit if you want a firmer shift. After that I would start on the intake side with siamese runners, cold air induction, and flowbooster,a performace chip,160deg therm, and underdrive crank pulley. Then, exhaust with 3inch catback,1 3/4 headers and maybe dual high flow cats depending on condition of original cats.If you still wanted to go faster a higher stall converter, and 3.70 gears would put you in the 12's and then cam, heads, rollerrockers, and manifold 11's.Mods can get very expensive, its just a matter of how much money do you want to spend, and how fast do you want to go.
11's hmmmm very interesting...gonna drop it out of and aeroplane?

Port you plenum, larger TB (52mm unless you run a supercharger or a 383 or bigger), AS&M large flow runners (or whatever they are called) with a edelbrock or accell base (high flow). That should do the trick, and help to put you in to some real low ET's with a good motor.
That is my plan with a 383 11.1 forged, 225 shot NOS, 2800 stall, compleat exhaust, and other small mods. Can you say "hello 11's"

I don't mean to sound harsh but your car has some serious issues if you are only running 14's with a 383 Miniram. You must be raceing in 110+weather,aren't shifting right, and your motor must have vaccuum leaks or other problems. Why would you spend money on a stroker motor, manifold, and trans.etc and not get a custom chip made. You can run high 11's with a NA 350 TPI with the right parts.I've seen it done with an L98 vette and it can be duplicated only a little harder, with a Thirdgen F-body.

Black, are you sharing notes with "Z Mystery" on the thread "How to get HP from a 305" on the Motor Swap board?
I have to agree with the others, I don't see the power or the et's from your stated mods in your reply above.

Lets see l98 vette=3800lbs? 240hp stock+ cam that works with computer= maybe 250hp. exhaust + 10 hp, better air ind. +5hp. =265hp. 265hp+3800lb vette = 11's. Oh must have forgot that 300 hp shot of nitrous and 11" wide slicks. Now I'll run 11's.
Not to be an a@# but its very hard to get a car into the 11's. I drive my car at the track the same way as on the street. That means hard radials and 60ft times over 2 sec. The car is sitting, untill I can get dfi. But it still wont run 11's.

3800lbs?Maybe with 2 fat people and a full tank of gas.My 85 vette weighed 3185lbs,my 90 conv.3310lbs,so I don't know where you get that figure from.L98 vettes can put out 370+RWHPand run 11's NA,as I've seen in person, and have several articles on in mags.
Thats odd that you fellas cant go 11's pretty easily. My l98 vette weighs 3175 so the guy claiming 3800 must be on crack.
My combo is simple. miniram + afr 195 heads + nice little cam = 11's. Any of you who are having problems going 12.5 with that setup have something seriously wrong.

As a L98 owner, and an LS1 owner, let me add my opinion. I have seen a lot of 3rd gen, and I own one, and have not seen one with the factory bottom end run 11's without a power adder. Now, the mods that you have listed will get an LS1 into the 11's, but that is a whole different animal. I spend most of my time around 3rd and 4th gen cars, and all the experts around here said that you can't get a 3rd gen in the 11's without stroking the motor, or sraying like 200hp N2O, even in a vette, in fact a friend of mine has an L98 vette that he races in EFI 13 class (nmca) and he said his car is capable of low 12's, but he also has a superram 383, I knew this debate was going on, so I went to the experts, and they said and I quote " Someone likes to talk about what it takes to make a car go fast, but they must have never tried it.
money talks bull$hit walks, let see some of these 11 second na cars.even 383's will incounter traction problems long before they hit the 11 sec range.we all know there are very few 12 sec street cars out there let alone 11 sec cars--internet racing is one thing time slips are another.

BlackGTA, you need to stop believing what you read in magazines. TPIS says it will get a 350 3rd gen into 11's with a cam, their heads, their cam, and the other naturally aspirated stuff. Bull $#!^. They dont mention it had airplane fuel, NO2, a vortech, a miniram, and 11" slicks. Get real.

Hey guys, Black5.7GTA is correct. A few years ago Pontiac High Performance Magazine did an article with SLP doing a 89'Formula and after all said and done it did 11.7's. It definitly had slicks and not street tires but it is possible. And I got this fact right from SLP themselves, since I live right down the road from them. If I can find the list of mods that were used I will post them and You guys can judge yourself. And there was no NOS or Supercharger on this car and was not bored out, stock bottom end! And all you guys that think this is bull.... well you'll just be mising out on an opportunity.

Some of you guys are hilarious. I don’t mean to insult anyone, but I gotta say it. Just because you are having trouble turning the et's you should does not mean that someone else can't do it. Traxion is knocking on the 11- second naturally aspirated door with his EFI set up and I have no doubts he'll make it (with the stock bottom end). Admittedly,, it’s not necessarily easy or cheap. If it was everyone in a third gen. would be running 11’s.
At least a few people on here have actually worked with cars. As for a c4 vette weighing 3100lbs stock. I have to laugh, the person reading the scale monitor must have been smoking crack(oh yea he's from ca.) I have a stock 87(4+3) vette and it weighs 3467 without me in it and a half a tank of gas. If I were to bolt slicks up to my camaro I would run 12's easy, but what fun is that? I dont drive down the highway at 75mph with slicks on. Anyways Ive had other cars and bikes that were alot faster than my z, but its a every day driver. As for the vette running 11's with a mild cam, afr's and a miniram, I say prove it. If thats all you have done(no computer tuning, no slicks, no headers, no gears,no trans work, etc.) Ill sell my car tomorrow in disgust(doubt it).

He's right guys...it's a white Formula with T tops right?? Anyway, I remember some of the mods he had...Superram, SLP cam & headers, ported L98 aluminum heads, 4.10 gears in a 9", true duals, and a lot of weight reduction. Still streetable though with a full interior. Doesn't anyone remember the Hard Rock Camaro?? I feel TRAXION is gonna do it soon..there's a guy on corvetteforum that runs 11s NA on his stock block L98 Vette. He uses a simple Superram/219 cam/AFR 190 combo...and lots of tuning. And there's a bunch more running easy 11s NA with SR/AFR/219 cammed 383s. Granted Vettes have better exhaust systems and are a bit lighter, I feel that 3rd gens can be close if you duplicate the same setups...like low 12s.
So I think it's certainly possible to go 11s NA on a stock block. It won't be cheap or easy but very doable. You can't just have an airfoil and exhaust to do it. It's getting dirty and having the right combination of parts and tuning, and then getting all that power to the ground...slicks or DRs and the proper torque converter are mandatory. This isn't internet racing either...these are the facts and people are doing it.
