Cold start valve
Cold start valve
Could a cold start valve make my car idle erratically when hot?I still have the same prob with the idle, when cold the idle is fine but when hot it go's up hi and I have to wait for it to go back down so I can put it in gear, and then it's okay until I put it in park or restart it. I put in a new TPS and it diden't help at all.The car idle's great when cold but after it get's hot the idle freak's out on me...Thank's Frankie
PS: No Code's

the cs valve opens and lets gas in when you start you car and it is cold (duh!). it is controlled by the thermo time switch, which is located in the front of your intake manifold,,,your car might run rich if the cs valve was stuck open,,i dont think that would cause an idle problem though.. sounds like an ignition problem (coil, plugs, wires, etc..)

My CS valve was leaking quite sever, to the point it did not start very well due to pools of gas in the intake. Anyways, my idle was rather weird, it seemed to be high, even when hot. Like to come to a stop, and the idle is high, and then comes down sort of.
I replaced the CS injector and it starts like a dream and the idle seemed to be more normal.
Really a leaking CS should not cause any problem with the idle as the computer should see the extra fuel and compensate.
Check the connection of the air hoses near your MAF. I had a loose connection there that allowed air to be sucked in after the MAF. That caused some strange idle.
Also, check you throttle shaft for play. If there is excessive play, then it is a vacum leak, most noticiable at idle. You could spray some carb cleaner at the shaft on the outside of the TB when the engine is running and see if the idle changes. If it does, then there is a leak.
Otherwise, check the usual, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, vac hoses.

Sorry,86 IROC-Z28 305 TPI.I think what the prob is,is that the valve isn't closing all the way and putting to much gas in the system and making the idle freak out and also making the car run rich.I don't know if i'm right or wrong on this. The way I look at it is a dumb qustion is one that's not asked,right...Thank's for the help Viper
it might be the thermo time switch,, that tells the csv to open/close,, if that broke, then that would keep the csv open/closed all the time. so dont just change the cs valve and think the problem will go away.
