85 TPI with an 87 Harness
I'm converting my 85 TPI to run with an 87 ECM, and I'm getting a complete wiring harness with the ECM. I may try converting the 85 harness first, but I'm anticipating all sorts of problems (I ALWAYS have problems) so I figured I'd have the 87 harness on hand incase. If I use the 87 harness, the MAF conversion will be easier, but I'm concerned about other differences. My 85 uses the distributer with the coil in the cap. Does the 87 use the same style or an external coil, and if it's external, is the wiring still the same?
What about the single fan vs. dual fan? I've been told that the secondary fan is not hooked to the harness and that the primary plug should switch right over to the single fan.
What else should I be aware of?

You will know if your coil-in-cap will work by looking at the 4-way connector. The coil-in-cap uses the large connector (looks like a 4-pin TPS). The external coil uses the small connector (looks like a 4-pin CTS).
My '87 used the external coil, but it was formerly an LG4. All you would have to do if your connector is different is get the small connector from the junkyard, and if you have a friend at a dealership he can re-pin it for you, if not, just solder it in place. I hope this helps.
