TB Coolant Bypass
TB Coolant Bypass
Is this mod beneficial? I have my TPI disassembled right now to clean and considering doing the bypass. I understand the logic behind it, but wondering if it really makes a difference.
Thanks,
Mike

Don't know if it does or not, but I would reccomend it while its off. Can't hurt (unless you live in real cold climates)

As GMTech said, it doesn't really hurt (unless you live in a really cold climate). I have a TB Bypass and I have had no problems in driving in 15*F temperature. But if you live in a climate that gets to just above 0*F, then you may wish to leave it connnected as it helps prevent icing in the TB.
As for performance gains, nothing noticeable except it helps retain that "cold engine" feel on a hot day. It stops the TB from getting heated up by coolant, but the whole TPI setup is a heat sink on its own. It helps the TPI to cool down quicker if you have a cold air setup for your air cleaner. But other than that, it doesn't do much.

I did this about a month ago. Its really not worth it right now. I had some trouble with it. But like I said its really not worth it now because its gettin cold. So if I were you I would wait till about spring when it starts to get warmer. You will feel it more.
