Interesting Super Ram install idea....within

I was just reading the current issue of Car Craft and they had an article with the buildup of an engine very similar to the one I'm building.(minus the blower and nitrous) When they installed their Super Ram, they used studs in the bottom of the plenum. I know that these bolts are supposed to be very difficult to install and was wondering if anyone had heard of using studs before? I've heard of drilling the bolts in from the top, but never studs. Just wondering.

I've never heard of using studs either. Are they talking about installing the studs into the plenum or the runners?

It seems to me that if they're installed into the plenum you aren't really making things any easier since you still have to get a nut up in there which is arguably harder than using the conventional setup.

That is a good idea when I put my superRam on it was on of the biggest pain in the butt things I had ever done especially since I use tall valve covers. The fun part would be to find the studs for such small holes. I think when I put my new heads on I will try to do the stud thing. Thanks for the idea

They put the studs into the plenum itself. If you can get your hands on a copy of Car Craft check it out...there's a decent pic of it.

I saw that article. Seemed like a very good idea, it aligns the upper plenum so it should make the install a lot easier.

Wouldn't it be a ***** to get nuts threaded onto those studs from the bottom? I just tapped the holes in my plenum and ran a bolt in from the top....that reminds me I need to re-torque!

It's the December 2000 issue of Car Craft. The article starts on page 60. I'm not really sure how you would go about securing the plenum onto the studs? Any ideas?

IMO, it would be more of a PITA to use the studs/nuts. I find it very easy to install the bolts that came with the SR. The most important thing to do is to run a tap though ALL bolt holes on the intake. Then slot a few of the screw ends. The screws practically draw themself up it's so easy. On the ones closest to the injectors, I just hold the screw with my finger and draw it up using a small flathead. HTH!
