Did the z28 have a carb? If it did then it won't work. On tpi setups the air comes from the air canister that's near the pass side headlight--no way you can run a carb air cleaner on a tpi. Now if the Z had tpi in it, w/the dual air cleaners I'm not too sure about that.

It won't work right. First you'd have to cut the $hit out of that metal in front of the core support. Plus you'd lose power b/c I think that's blocked off somehow. Trust me, there's a reason Pontiac didn't use that setup b/c it cost them about 10hp vs. the IROC. Just get a SLP cold air kit or you can run a big *** K&N cone...that will work just fine.

Absolutely not. I tried it when I did my TPI swap, and I didn't want to cut all that metal out behind the front fascia, not to mention, you will have to cut the air boxes to clear the turn signal lamps.
On top of that, the hood will interfere where it goes over the radiator support. You will have to cut out the bottom of the hood.
To give my car "cold air" here is what I used:
1) '88 firebird snorkel (90* elbow)
2) 3" exhaust w/ about a 45* bend, primed, basecoated and clearcoated,
3)Cone filter w/ 3" fitting on end
4) Plastic sheeting and weatherstrip
To let you know how it worked, I used a scantool to check temperatures (I relocated the temp sensor down to the filter) the engine temp was 210*F and the air temp was reading 66*, so it seals off pretty good.
Here is what it looks like:
