GM Fastburn heads
GM Fastburn heads
Has anybody tried these on a TPI setup yet? If so how do you like them? What kind of times are you getting out of them, what mods work well with them? I'm new to running fuel injected cars, and don't know whats been done or what to start out with on my IROC. All and any help is appreciated

In the GM Performance Parts catalog, they say that the heads are drilled and tapped for the vortec and 86 - earlier intakes. now i don't know about the ports but i think that they are the same. i am also interested in these heads, and this ias about the most i can come up with from my reasearch.
Hey thanx for the info guy's. I'm just starting on this project so any and all info is valuable. This is the first real computer car I've begun to hotrod.

Before you buy fastburns, ge the GMPP catalog and read carefully.
The Fastburn head has a taller port that is optimized for a later Vortec / Ramjet intake.
The bulk of the flow gain is a result of raising the roof of the port. If early manifolds fit at all, they will need to have the roof raised to match.
TPI Intakes have the two center holes drilled in a different location, at a different angle. Thus, no bolt up ( and the resultant desire for the SDPC/Edelebrock base ).
In fact, a TPI probably won't work at all with the Fastburns.
However ... I've heard from reliable sources that one can use a RamJet intake, with existing TPI ('88 - up speed density ) architecture. There's no EGR, tho, so emission legality is a problem in that case.
You have to scare up the fuel rails, and the air meter, and a custom chip among other things. But, at the end of the day, with the LT4 Hot cam and 1 3/4" headers, you have an honest 375-400 hp at the flywheel.
Food for thought, anyway.

I just got my FastBurn heads in, and couldn't resist mocking up how the set-up will look. Fuel rails are being fabbed as I type, then it's off to the powdercoater to have the intake and throttle body powdercoated with an "almost chrome" finish.
Heads will be off tomorrow to the head shop for upgraded springs to handle the .560 lift Lingenfelter roller - as well as pocket-porting.
Will post more pics as it comes together.

They will work I have dione it with two motors now one 350 and one 400 you have to use a thick felpro gaskit used for the vortec heads and you have to modify the Base so that the intake ports will work.If any one would like to know how its done let me know Im thinking about making a few to sell probly ask around 150 for them with exchange the machine work alone is around $75 and then the port work you have to do takes a wille. Let me know E-mail me at 87gta@altavista.com
