Suggestions for L98 buildup???

I am looking for suggestions on intake/runners, heads, cam before I start orfering for the L98 rebuild. I am going to have at 3500 or so to spend on the motor because it will cost me another 1000 to have someone drop it in. I was thinking edelbrock intake, and as&m runners if I can afford them. Does anyone have a link to their site because I haven't been able to find AS&M at all. What heads??? A custom cam and some SLP headers. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks guys.

$1000 to install a motor? Keep looking, man.

Does the $3500 include building the shortblock or just mods?

SLP 1-3/4" headers - $400
SFCs- $200 installed (average)
Edelbrock intake (carparts.com or carpartsonsale.com) - $350 shipped
as&m runners - $400????
ported plenum - FREE
holley afpr - $75 (or so)
good cam - $250
bore your stock tb to 52mm - $150
scat 383 crank, balancer, & balancing - approx. $750 (just a guess)
unless you have $3500 just to spend on mods I'd recommend a set of sportsman II heads - $700 complete
comp 1.5 roller tip rockers - $150 (if you shop around)
or
full race rollers - $300 (waste of money IMO)
Hooker or Flowmaster 3" catback - $250 (or so)
Gutted cat - FREE
TPI airfoil - $30
95 4.3 s-10 converter - $100 rebuilt (2300-2500 stall)
GM truck motor mount for driver's side (to help the slp headers clear) - $35???
chip - sky's the limit or learn to do it yourself

that's all off the top of my head

I have to buy the block with that money. I have a total of 4500 to spend including the install and exhaust stuff but I already have 3" flows on it. I just need some advice on cam and intakes. I am leaning toward edelbrock just wanting some info because that is a lot of money for a college guy to drop on his ride.

Hey, you are also in COFBA arent you??
We should meet up sometime I live right by Warr Acres.
First of all,
The Edelbrock,Accel and TPIS Bases are almost identical. In the runners you could have the AS&M or the SLP siamiesed runners.
The cam is most important part.
I would call the cam company, tell them what you want out of it (IE. Gas mileage,High performance Streetablity,ETC...)
and tell them some stats about your heads. and what you want to do NA, NOS, Blower.
and where do you want your power range to be.

If you are planning on using a late model 1 piece rear main engine block, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A 87-89!! THEY ARE PRONE TO CRACKING IN THE LIFTER VALLEY! I pulled a cracked 305 out of my 87. I was told 87-89 chevy V-8s are very likely to crack, so like an idiot I bought a complete 350 out of an 88. I put in new bearings, rings, timing chain, oil pump etc before installing it. Friday, I pulled off the intake to do a cam/intake upgrade and guess what I found... Agghhhhhhhhh!!

But this does give the perfect opportunity for a 383

I thought only the 305s were prone to crack in that area, not the 350s. Who knows, it is probably speculation?
