need help with timing?????????????

I got a timeing light for Christmas. I have never timed a car before. I dont know what my timing is supposed to be set at stock. I have looked in my Helms and Haynes manuels and they both said to look in my owners manuel or under the hood on the emissions sticker. I have neither. It is an 87 Iroc-Z l98. If you can help me out that would be cool. Thanks

You will also need to disconnect the tan/black stripe wire above the blower motor, otherwise the computer will advance the timing and you won't get a true reading....

You do know how to connect the timing light?
And you do know where the #1 cylinder is too?
Right?
It may sound stupid but I didn't know where the #1 cylinder was when I started timing my car and boy was that a mess!LOL.
Depending on mods I heard people advancing the base timing up to 12*. But it is good to go to the track when fine tuning.
Good Luck and have fun!

6* is stock for a little more ***** try 9*-10* especially if you don't have an aftermarket chip which would advance your timing itself
