Fuel issue - L98 TPI

Passing Etest is #2 now, maybe this problem is even relating to it failing
Vehicle runs awesome, until it idles for a long peiord (heating it up for an etest lol) and the fuel pump starts to whine louder, louder then it stumbles and stalls. Fires back up, run rough, give it gas, it studders and stalls. Let it sit 10-15, fires up, runs good. It did it before my etest, let it sit, went on etest, went to car show, drove home, then i thought id try it as I did fuel filter before etest and it was NASTY to maybe it was staining the pump. Well did it again and for 30min no matter how long she sat, no difference. So tonight ill see if it fires up or same issues, either way though I need to fix it.
It is a brand new tank on car and apprently a Holley Hi-flow pump. Could a bad ground or relay produce this problem? If I do need a pump, Im cutting a hole behind the rear seat to pull it out and avoid all the suspension stuff to drop.
Any input would be awesome. Thanks guys.
on a side not, would an Ill fitting gas cap (pressure leaking out) increase HydroCarbons?

Re: Fuel issue - L98 TPI

(First off, inside gas tank is BRAND NEW everything clean and spotless)
2ndly Id rather have my hole in the back, any problems in future I will have access to it, and everything will be easy to unhook and pull out
Did a pressure test today :
Cold start and run :
50 PSI at idle, spikes to 57-60 on rev

50Psi Idle, 60ish when rev

Then pump heats up, and you can hear it whining :
Dad Hears pump getting louder
Hard to hear on camera, but its MUCH louder then when its cooled off
RIGHT after this, the gauge plumits to 30, then lower, then when u but demand ont he pump by reving, it just falls to 0
PSI drop

Try and restart right after wont prime, pump wont activate :
No Pump power

Wait longer, and SLOWLY hits 50 then drops right off (Sounds strained):
2nd cool down reprime
If I let it cool right off, she'll run ***** out again, until pump gets warm
So new pump and Strainer ordered for tomorrow at 11am. - Total price including PRessure tester - $180.00

Re: Fuel issue - L98 TPI

Sounds like a bad fuel pressure regulator. You shouldnt be at 50psi at idle. The pressure regulator is vacuum actuated, so at idle the pressure is lower, then at WOT it should go up to around 47psi. Your pressure is way too high. This would cause the motor to be rich and would strain the pump.

Re: Fuel issue - L98 TPI

So this could be why Im failing etest with Hydrocarbons and my pumps overheating/

Anyone else say its the regulator?

Re: Fuel issue - L98 TPI

Called pervious owner
Car has a AFPR
So I checked, sure enough lil nut on the top
So me and my dad adjusted it to 35psi at idle, peaks to 44-45 when u rev it, idles smooth, smells clean behind it, also the vac. line to the FPR was split, so i fixxed that.
Runs alot longer then pump whines and dies, my guess is the FPR killed the pump, so new pump is on order, FP is set, car smells so clean, thats where my HC's were coming from!!
So Pump will go in tomorrow or tues, then check timing and stuff and slap her onto the etest again!!
Thanks for all the help guys
