I think everyone needs to stop trying to beat LT1's and LS1's. That is fine if you can, but why not compare yourselves to mustangs, especially your year mustangs. That way you can compete with the mustangs that have as many mods as you do. Put your mods on an LT1 or LS1 and they will beat you (maybe kill you). It is just my opinion, but I think it is a good point. My brother has a 99 SS and it is one of my favorite cars ever. I love my Formula, but I would not even try to compare it to his car. I have more mods than he does but he is running a lot faster and handling a lot better.

I'm not trying to be a jerk. This is just my opinion. I would still choose a thirdgen L98 over an LT1 or even an LS1. But to be in competition, I don't know.

I already know I can beat mustangs. I can beat them now. I like the 4th gens too but they all think they are better with there newer cars. Also my friend has a 95 z and we like to race each other. I would get a 4th but I like 3rd gens better. At least nice irocz and z28's. They look more aggressive. Keep the info coming.

He may be running faster, but I doubt he's handling better. 4thgens handle like pigs compared to Thirdgens.

You are SOOO ready for an LT4 Hot Cam or ZZ9! With your gearing and other mods, that thing will make your car a good .6 or so faster!

I second that one Dan. I'm using the Comp HR269, very similar to the LT4 Hot cam, but faster ramps. Trav & I have similar setups, although I'm still running the stock ported heads, SLP runners (siamesed entries), 52mm TB, ported everything, 3:27 gears. The cam made a huge difference in my car, upgrading from an LT4 production cam. Haven't tuned for it yet, either - just getting started on prom tuning. I'm outrunning the stock LT1's/new Mustang GT's on the 1/8 mile track now. Trav, you'll have better gearing and much better heads than I'm running, so I think the ZZ4 cam would not be as gratifying in your combo as the LT4 Hot or Comp (or similar). I'd recommend the additional cost of the Comp for the better machine work alone (ground from billet), if the Hot cam is manufactured like the production cam (welded lobes). No comparison.

------------------
87 GTA, auto w/2075 stall, 3.27 rear, L98 .020 over,Comp 269HR cam & 1.5 roller tips, ported heads w/3 angle vj & brnz guides, 52mm TB & airfoil, SLP runners, ported plenum, ported intake, Edelbrock TES, AFPR, MSD 6A/Blaster coil, MAF screens, cold-air induction, vortec muffler, heated O2, Ed Wright Fastchip.

ps Spare yourself and buy chromemoly pushrods, if you haven't already. Trick Flows are like $80 at Summit. I found bent OE pushrods with both cams.

you have a good setup go with the guys on this page and your set they're good! anyjow to your question, yes by far! lt1's only ran 14's from the factory. or maybe 13's if they're lucky! as for ls1's i dont think so, they're basically factory "hot rods" considering they run 13's from the factory and into the 12's easily! and supposedly they are going to de-stroke the mighty Ls1 and get 435 hp in a camaro! there has been rumor of a 645 hp firebird we will see..........

------------------
1989 firebird formula

Mods: converted from T.B.I. to a carburator 305 to a 350. Flowmater exhaust,hedman shortie hedders,202 heads,350 horse cam,bored.40 over, Edlebrock torker2 and a 600 edlebrock manual choke.

Future mods performer rpm air gap intake (polished) comp roller cam, and way better headsa 400 defintely in the works!
