Stupid MAF question of the month within>>>

Can a MAF be installed backwards? It seems to me that you can. Can you? And if not, why not?

You could... but I wouldnt. The center part around where the wire is has a certain shape to it if you look at it, one side is rounded and the other is tapered to knife edge. The rounded side is supposed to face into the airflow. Its an aerodynamics thing. Im not sure if turning it around would really throw off the reading and how bad it would be, but its supposed to face one way.

It doesn't seem to matter in which direction that I install a MAF on my car.

Sorry Willie, I just couldn't resist.

You're one funny dude, Glenn.

There is a reason for my madness... I just installed an ATI and it relocates the MAF in a transverse position in the vicinity of the radiator cap. In as much as if it's placed in the "proper" direction, the wiring pigtail points towards the longitudinal centerline of the car. The wiring from the MAF has to make an immediate U-turn to avoid the belts and fans. I thought it would be much cleaner if the pigtail were pointing the opposite direction (i.e. MAF installed backwards).

dude, where my maf sits with my procharger is fine. just turn the thing upside down and have the connector on the top. the maf wiring doesn't make a u but more like an "S". also, route it under the radiator hose but watch and make sure it doesn't hit the belts. i didn't and had to rewire doh!
