BackFiring!!

It first started about 2 months ago. When ever I would get on it every once and a while It would back fire. now if Im reving it up just alittle it backfires alot. im thinking clogged fuel injectors??. I dont really have time to send them and get rebuilt but someplaces around have a "3 step injector cleaner" i guess they hook somthing to the fuel rail and use pressure to clean them. Is this advisable or is it not the fuel injectors?

Nope not injectors.
Remove valve covers and visually check the condition of your valvesprings looking for a broken spring.
Next get a leakdown test performed on every cylinder looking for a bad leak.
This will eliminate a possible major problem first off and give you peace of mind knowing if it's a cracked or bent valve, or broken valvespring.
If that's all good then do your normal troubleshooting for the possible little problems.
good luck

ODB, even though you turned against me, I have to admitt that you do know more than just basics when it comes to cars. You are right about the springs. Had that problem; turned out Jeg's had put the wrong numbers on the catalogue, so I bought springs that were binding and breaking, making the car backfire and obviously run like $hit. Called Crower and fixed the problem. Jeg's never refunded my money though.

ok it could be the springs but it could also be the igition being a tooth off on the distributor placement. or a fualty ignition item somewhere. or the timing is just relly way off?! if the springs are seeing coil bind then its the springs without a doubt!

Check the springs. It won't cost you anything and will definately give peace of mind. I was able to go to work before I found out I had a broken spring. Also, check your distributor gear; the teeth might be really worn out and mess your timing (happened to me). You might wanna check the spark plug wires, they will definately mess your car up if just one is cut, burnt or else, although I don't know if that would make the car backfire. Just check everything you can and fix accordingly. that's the best and cheapest way.

i was just wondering what your fuel pressure is set at? when i set my pressure at 50 psi the motor would backfire if i keep in high rpm for very long .dropped fuel pressure to 46 and the backfiring went away hope this helps .

Chris,
Are you backfiring through the intake or exhaust?
