Camshaft for 305
What would be the benefits of getting a new cam shaft for my 305 tpi? Do I want anything else to go with it if I get a new or better one?

You can port your own heads with about 25 hours of work. my ported 305 heads have brought me tantalizingly close to a 13 second quarter mile at nearly 101 MPH. See: http://www.isthq.com/~dan/ported.html
On the cam: Try a Comp Cams XE262H with 112 degree lobe separation angle. Don't get the 110 degree LSA; not enough vacuum.
Also get yourself a Turbine Technologies 2500 RPM stall converter for $165. It's a deal that'll chop 4 tenths off your quarter mile. At least, it did for me!
get yourself headers and a new exhaust if you havent already, along with an Edelbrock aftermarket intake manifold some aftermarket runners (I like SLP) and get your plenum ported. Stay with a 48MM throttle body for now; It'll support 320 HP easy.
I, uh, >ahem.< port plenums for $60 if you are interested.
