Cam upgrade for a 305TPI w/TES headers
I'm thinking about getting a slightly better cam for my car. I don't plan to modify the motor too much.I want a mild cam that will work w/my mostly stock engine(read sig) and give me some more power. I am installing TES headers and I might get aftermarket intake parts(runners, manifold, plenum,TB)
I would be very happy if the car does high 12s to low 13s,if possible.
So what cam would you guys recomend?
Thanks in advance.

If I cant run high 12's with my 350, you arent running high 12's with a 305.
Especially not with a mild cam. Check out Comp Cams line of cams, and pick something in the 206-212 intake duration range. Also check the cam tech article on this website. I think you could run high 13's with some drag radials.

The only first hand experience I have with a 305 TPI aftermarket cam is when my friend put an SLP Cam (smaller one) in his 89 IROC. His only other mods are an American Thunder Cat-back, Random Tech cat and a 3.73s. He runs mid 15s up here at about 6000 feet.

don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't do.
Try the LPE cam that I run in my 383 and 305. It is specifically designed for TPI engines and makes great power.

to Pontimaniac 90, with alittle more mods and some tranny work, you can get a 305 into the 12's. I personally did it. Granted I have done everything besides boring out the stock cylinders, but it can be done, expensive though. And I've said it before and I'll say it again, isn't it more fair to race a 305 vs a 302 or even the newer 4.6L's than racing with a 350? Granted I would love to have a 350, but it isn't as fair as a match in my opinion. And the Ford guys are our main competion.

The unfair displacement advantage argument is getting really boring. My L98 car from the factory was rated at 230 hp, and a like equipped GT was rated at 225. 5 hp, like that's gonna make a helluva difference, especially when the the GT weighs less. GT guys are always making the "you got more cubes" excuse,... after they lose. If you don't wanna race the guy with more cubes then don't race him. But don't whine after you lose.
A friend of mine owns a 1997 Cobra, and I have raced him twice(last year), and won both times. So the second time he starts whining. "You got a complete exhaust upgrade, you've modified your heads and intake, and you've done work on your suspension". So I pointed out my car with driver and fuel weighs 3850 lbs(150 lbs of tools in the back well). And he would only have weighed around 3600 lbs. Then to add insult to injury I also mentioned that I paid $4500(CDN) cash for my car and have about $3000 in mods in it.
Me: "Yup, your $45,000 Cobra(that's what they sold for up here in '97) got beat twice by a 13 year old Camaro, that has 130,000 miles on the clock(at that time) and it only cost me $7500! When you get done paying off your new Ford, maybe you can afford to run with an old Chevy."
Him: Bastard!
Me: "Is it my fault you got more money than brains? And you asked to race me, not the other way around."

Thanks for the replies guys. I also beleive that you can get a 12s 305 and a 350 for sure.As far as racing goes I raced an older 911 of a light and I was slowly advancing. And, yes, he was racing. I'll race anyone who's willing at any time as long as the road is clear. If i lose, I lose. It still gets the blood pumpin'. I'm surprized how well my car responded to small mods. I think it's faster than it should be. I'm gonna run it at e-town this spring and see if it's just my butt dyno or maybe it's just a faster than usual 305.
