engine won't start again-kind of
Well it happened again, my TPI engine won't start. It seems the injectors are not firing, they don't light a noid light while cranking. I have good fuel pressure-48 psi indicated on the fuel rail.
I sprayed starting fluid down the throttle body and it fired right up and then runs fine. I'll drive it a few days and the no start condition returns.
Why would it start and run fine with start fluid and not start by itself??

john,
is your key real loose in the ignition?
you might want to bypass the VATS in your car temprorarily and see if that cures the problems. the VATS kills the injector pulse during cranking. second check the ignition pickup coil. tendecy to wreek havoc during cranking. the two main parts to look at for your symptoms..
let us know??

Well I have put up with the problem all winter long having to use starting fluid once in a while, maybe once or twice a month. Lately within the past month it became a daily thing, you know go to work, work all day get off and walk to the car, the thing doesn't start!!! I spray and go home, next dat same thing, I spray and go home.Well after about a week of this I decide to go ahead and change the ignition module because that's where the computer gets the cranking signal so it can fire the injectors below 400rpm. After 400rpm the computer goes into "run" mode and doesn't use the module signal anymore thats why I could use starting fluid to get past the 400rpm mark.
All in all the new module is doing great, I haven't had to spray in a month now and I consider the problem fixed. Just thought I should share....also notice the start date of this thread.

John, you scared me. All I saw was this thread, and didn't see when it was started, and I thought it was acting up again. DON'T DO THAT!!! But then I figured that if it did act up again, you would be calling me at work saying WTF!?!?
Anyway, you are part right about the Ignition Control Module. There are two ICM modes like you mentioned, but the ECM ALWAYS gets the pulses from the ICM, not just in cranking.

I didn't mean to scare you GMTech, I was just giving a little feedback so others can solve their problem if they have the same one. I know this is a very common problem among F-bodies. There have been several posts at this board alone with the same symtoms as mine.
Thanks for the correction about the modes of the module, I did not know that.

check your distributor and make sure its tight. and also check the timing. check for bad ground wire on the battery.
