Don't take this negatively, but honestly guys, is there some stock TPI parts shortage on this forum? I put a wanted request on the parts wanted board for a STOCK GM TPI throttle body like a week ago. Seems no-one has one, or wants a few extra $$ for a part thats cluttering up their garage. Where are they all going, seems like I see a larger than stock TB on everyones LB9/L98 car on this board. I am still looking. I am looking for one of the early TB without the throttle cam. Thought I would post here and see what happens. I just don't want the one that I saw corroding away on ebay. Please help a fellow TGO member out.

 

I have one but has a small (air bleed) hole in each throttle plate.

 

You can buy that stuff on ebay all day everyday. However some people think that stuff is gold so don't pay a lot; keep looking.

 

I have a spare TB, but I think its a very late model. Its also missing that mount thing on the bottom that the IAC screws into.

 

I've recently started looking for a 90-92 unported plenum and I haven't been able to find one yet.

 

I think the casting that bolts onto the bottom of the TB might be a "frequently replaced" item due to coolant corrosion. the part that the IAC motor bolts onto, and that the coolant routes through. I replaced my stock TB with a 52mm TB, but when I went to transfer the requisite parts, several of the small bolts just snapped off, they were frozen in place, and the coolant "manifold" was severely corroded. I had been running at least 50% antifreeze, mind you.

this type of problem might affect the "sale-ability" of the part.

 

i have one on ebay right now, 9.95, its not corroded but the cpplant plate has been taken off. interested? look me up on ebay.

 

I've also been trying to get a 90 TPI plenum (speed density), have not been successful yet on eBay. the prices seem to get pretty high for the SD version. I figure if I keep looking, I'll get lucky one day. maybe not...

 

boy, you outta try finding a GOOD rear end for an 87 IROC. That was a one-off year with an Austrailian tranny. everyone we found was either bad, or wrong gears. Wound up getting a WHOLE rear end outta Hawks 3rd gen parts in NC and having it shipped. Used but it works. The ONLY place that sells these new wants 1200 for just the parts!

 

Bingo on the coolant passage issue. Most of these get replaced by people who don't know what they are doing and are putting a TB that is way too big for their motor on, in which case they throw the old one away. Or the other issue is it is being replaced because they are corroded or too small and get damaged or are too far gone to sell, in which case they get thrown too. I have seen a few though and your best bet is to keep an eye out for entire parts cars or try and catch a "XX Third Gen being parted" post and try and nab the TB.

 

There were well over a million TPI engines sold between Camaro, Corvette and Firebird.

There is sure no shortage. These things are in junkyards all over the country.

 

I found a 1990 IROC plenum on Ebay a few days ago but the seller wouldn't ship to Canada.
