Interest in Edelbrock TPI intake group purchase?

I thought there might be enough interest in the Edelbrock TPI intakes to do another group purchase. This hi-flow stock intake replacement is key to most induction upgrades - the stock intake is typically regarded as the single biggest impediment to airflow in the TPI system. If you need more info please search the archives as I do not have any personal experience with this.

I believe the last GP required at least 20 purchases and they went for $300 each - this is from memory so if I'm wrong please correct me. I wanted to see how many people would be seriously interested in purchasing one for $300, and if it looks like there's enough interest I'll follow up on it. You're not likely to find a good deal on a used one, I've been looking for a long time - this GP will be your best deal. If you are interested in purchasing one of these in the next month or so reply to this post or send me an e-mail. Bear in mind this is preliminary to gauge interest and I do not have any details yet.

ATTN Board Moderators: if there are any details regarding this please let me know.

If you are talking about the intake base, which I think you are, then I'm in. Why don't we better the deal and set up a corresponding G.P. for some high flow runners? I could handle a nice discount on a set of edlebrock, or any other decent brand of runner for that matter. E-mail me with the details as soon as your ready for some loot.

This unit is a direct replacement for the stock TPI base intake manifold and offers improved air flow. It can be ported to increase flow capacity. The Edelbrock is comparable to the Accel base intake which is considerably more expensive. It can be used with all OE and aftermarket OE replacement fuel injection and emission components. Any aftermarket TPI runners will bolt up, including the Super Ram - my choice. If you need more information please research the archives here on thirdgen and you should find answers to most of your questions.

The best price I've seen is on www.paceparts.com for $335 - per a phone conversation recently that price is questionable. It ranges between $345 - $355 other places I've looked. The Accel base is $518 on Jegs - yeah, right. I think "SUCKER" is cast in it...

If several people are interested in runners I'll ask about a discount along with the intake purchase. Let me know in your reply that you would be interested in the runners as well as the base.

Interested in the Base but would really like to have a Base/Runners combo discount.
Count me in for the Base, though.

How about a set of the SLP runners to go with it? From what I've heard / seen, this seems to be the best combo for the price.

I've been in contact with someone concerning this already, I hope to have some prices tomorrow. I asked for a price on the runners too - I'll post all this info as soon as I get it.

Dan, I guess it will be within the next 3 or 4 weeks.

I think we'll need 15 to 20 people to get a really good discount. It looks like there are 9 people interested so far, and a few deliberating on it. Guys, if you need an intake, don't do like I did and pass up the GP - there was one last year, so if this goes off there might not be another for a while. I've looked everywhere for a good deal on one and they are not to be found - that's why I decided to set this up, so I can get the discount too.

I am interested if the price is right. SLP had the runners on sale for $200 a while back and that would be sweet if we could get the base/runners for $500.

Ok guys - my service has been down, but here's the info. The intake for this GP will be the Accel. It's currently going for $518 on Jegs. This is an equivalent to the Edelbrock and is a high quality piece. It offers the same performance, and I haven't heard of it having quality issues like I have the Edelbrock. Some of the Edelbrock intakes have had problems in the injector seat area, resulting in guys having to use spacers - which would not make me happy on a brand new high dollar part!

Here's the deal:
Accel base intake
5 - 10 pcs $315 each
11 - 15 $310
15 - 19 $305
20 or more $300

Accel runners: (these outflow SLP's)
85 - 88 $349 (Jegs $396)
89 - 92 $399 (Jegs $467)

Super Ram - $675

These runner prices are good as long as we do the GP on the intakes. If there is enough combined volume, there could be an additional 5% discount on the runners only - the intake prices are fixed. It looks like this GP can happen pretty soon - I just need to separate the serious buyers from the "tire kickers" and get accurate numbers for final pricing. It looks like we have about 13 people that are "serious" now, including myself and a couple of local people. A couple more will put it at $305, and if we can buy at least 18 pieces we can still get the $300 price - the vendor will keep the other two in inventory.

Here's the deal on the shipping - it will be split evenly among all participants. The total will be calculated from zip codes. There are some things we can do to save here. It's cheaper to ship to a business than a residence, so if you can receive it at work it's cheaper. If there are people who know each other or live close, combining shipments will lower the cost. Shipping should not exceed $10 each. If you insist on COD it will require a deposit, and you will pay the COD cost in addition to the shipping.

The person I am buying them from must remain unmentioned on this forum, but it is an established business that everyone can feel comfortable sending a check to - and several of us probably have. I, and friends, have done business with them in the past and I'm glad that we got this opportunity.

Here's what I need: if you are SERIOUS, let me know which of the parts you want, the zip code where the parts will be shipped, and whether you can combine your shipment with someone else. Send me an e-mail with this information, but only if you are committed to purchasing. I'll post an update next week.

what is that $675 super ram figure?
is that what a gp on the base, runners, plenum for that system would cost??
that seems much more tempting than the other gp if that is the case...just weighting my options here. let me know what its all about.

Question on the Accel base (save me from searching for info if anyone knows...) is it 50-state legal? i/e does it have the CARB exempt #? If so, I'll jump on in, have to think about the runners for a bit...BTW, do the Accel runner have the block off for the Cold Start valve?

Hey guys, the cable-modem is dying. I was unable to post until today.

The Super Ram is a replacement set for the TPI runners and plenum - it requires a base intake manifold. It is a "de-tuned" induction system with larger diameter, shorter length runners and a larger plenum. There should be plenty of information available on the SR if you research the thirdgen archives. The Super Ram is eligible for the additional discount as are the runners if we get sufficient sales volume.

The difference in the two Accel runners is that the 89-92 runners have the cold start injector hole blocked. You can make your own cold-start block and use the less expensive runners.

I don't want to turn this into a Super Ram vs long tube runner debate, but here's a quick summary (this is from the vendor, who has real world experience with these systems):
The Super Ram will offer a flatter torque curve across the power band, and will make power to 6000-6500 RPM's and potentially beyond. The LTR setup is torque biased; it makes torque at lower RPM's, but runs out of flow capacity at ~5500 RPM's (sooner with stock TPI runners). As with any system, correctly matching your components - heads, cam, induction, exhaust - is more critical to performance than any single "bolt-on". There are proven combo's that can be found by researching the archives. Anyone considering upgrades such as these should take the time to formulate a combo that will serve them best rather than just ordering parts and slapping them together. Again, this post is not the place to discuss opinions on what I've stated or to argue the specifics of the two systems - please start a separate topic if you so desire.

All of these parts are 50 state legal - I have the CARB number at home, e-mail me if you need that info.

Hey-
When is this takingplace? I may be interested in one. Will this benfit a stock engine? I'm building a L98 w/ ZZ4 cam/springs, AFPR, ported TPI, ported heads, headers, 3" exhaust and a few others. Will this help me much or should I save for my 6-speed swap? TIA

I may be interested. I just finished porting my stock base and it's still small. Was looking into a base and runners that will support up to 5500 RPM. What was the price on the base/runner combo? My zip is 32308. Thanks -dhirocz

The Accel base & runners will support flow up to 5500, according to the vendor. I think we will have enough interest to get the $300 price on the base - I have to get the total sales numbers to see if we get any further discounts on the runner tubes. The runner tubes are $349 for 85-88 years, $399 for 89-92 on the GP, before any further discounts.

Hey guys,

Bear with me - my service at home is not working and I'm trying to do this from work. If everyone who has said they want parts are serious, we will do quite well on this GP. It looks like we will qualify for some great discounts - I will post more info later today. I need to let the vendor know how many "commitments" we have and see if we have enought volume to qualify for the best discount. If you are on the fence about LTR's or a Super Ram, this might be the time to buy.

For you canooks up nort', I'll find out today what is involved with shipping to Canada, and I will post this along with e-mails.

Thanks for bearing with me - someone come bail me out if I shoot up the cable modem ISP office!

More to come....

I thought this was for the Edeldbrock intake base?
I bet that would be killer on my 355 With a 58mm Tb ported Plenum, matched to SLP runners, matched to a high flowing intake manifold. Hell yea then I will have one hell of a vacume cleaner.

Blade, I already have you down for one!

Kyle, I originally started this post believing the Edelbrock was the only intake we could get a decent price on, then we got the opportunity to go with Accel. And yes, I think this would work great with your setup. But then, I'm no expert...

OK guys, good news. IF everyone who has said they will purchase is serious, we will have enough sales to qualify for the additional discount on the runners and Super Ram. The new prices are basically $25 less - 85-88 runners $325, 89-92 $375. The Super Ram will be $650. If several people who have told me they are committed back out and we do not reach the necessary volume for these discounts, the prices will be as originally listed.

We will definitely be able to get the $300 price on the base intake.

I hope this entices everyone interested to take advantage of this GP. The vendor would like to place the order next Friday, March 9, and he expects that it will take a couple of weeks for all the shipping and handling logistics. I will be contacting everyone on my "committed" list in the next few days to confirm that they will actually be purchasing. Again, if you are interested please e-mail me with the items you want, zip code, and whether the shipping address is a residence or a business. Canadian customers will have to pay the extra associated shipping charges, but it will not be a problem.

I would like to ask that everyone send a check or money order to the vendor once we have calculated the total with shipping - he has participated in these before and assures me that there are those who WILL jerk him around, either by not sending the money, or by taking a long time to do so. This person is doing most of the work required for us to get this deal, so please: if you don't have the money or aren't serious, don't waste my time or his time. I will provide the vendor information as I contact everyone on my list. Those who prefer to pay via credit card may do so thru Paypal, but they must pay the usage charges from Paypal, which I believe is 2.2%.

Just checking some details...

Is the base milled for both Corvette and Camaro (early/late) center intake/head bolt angles?

Might there be a different part number for the EGR routing (Corvette tube off header to top / Camaro through cylinder head)?

Could be one type fits all but I'd like to be sure.

Gary

Count me in for a base...only 1 problem...won't have the money for a week and a half...You mentioned the orders would be done in a week. If I send a check out tuesday I should be OK. Do you think this will be a problem? If not, let me in! No sure on the runners at this time, I'll probably go with SLP's, even though they flow less, I can get some for less $$$. Thanks
