Converting to TPI

Could someone explain to me the advantages of converting to TPI if there are any. Is it hard? I'm new to all this, just bought an 89 and heard about converting it to TPI. Just wandering whats up with it.
Thanks

There are a lot more go-fast parts available for TPI. My dad converted his 92 RS from TBI to TPI and gained 17 HP and 90 TQ on a dyno... But it does cost money, and parts are usually more expensive for TPI than TBI.
