Cam and rocker question

I won't be doing my motor till this fall and Im just looking for cheapie stuff to do to it in the mean time so I can save for all the new stuff . Will I gain anything at all with a stock LT1 cam . All it will cost me is gaskets , which I have already so it will be free . I'm not sure of the specs on the LT1 cam and my heads , cam and TPI unit are all factory stock and I do have the 5.7 motor . I'm just a tenth away from the 12's so even if gains are minimal I would go ahead and do it .
Also can I put 1.6 rockers on without changing the valvesprings . Will the stock LT1 valvesprings work ok .
Thanx for any help guys And remember I'm not looking for optimal I just need a couple tenths to get me in the 12's and the parts are free

Depends on which LT1 cam you have.I've got a 96 part#12551705 .447/.459 lift 205/207 duration @.05 lsa 117 deg.I added ZZ3 springs part#10134358 (which might be the same as LT1 springs)with 1.6 roller tips just to be safe.I think the springs are like $33 or so.I had to replace the retainers also. The car runs better, but I haven't taken it to the track yet to see how much.

The stock LT1 cam is nearly identical to the L98 cam with a little extra lift. It may run a little better, it may not. Since it's free (except gaskets and your time) then go for it. Personally i wouldn't go through a cam swap for such a slim chance of real gains. At best you'll see 10-15hp which is not gonna get you into the 12s.
