tpi 305 mild build

hey guys i've got a fairly newly rebuilt jasper 305 in my car, no problems whatsoever with it *whew*. Anyways my car is an 89 305 tpi, t5 5 speed car.

pretty much has all the bolt ons already except a couple that i have and will soon install but, i want it to go faster (i've got the speed bug).

plz dont try and educate me on why i should build a 350-383 i know i will make plenty more power but, i have my reasons + these parts will be swappable to a bigger engine in the future.

basically i want to build this engine as efficiently and drivable as possible since it is my current daily driver.

*s/r torquer 305 heads 58cc combustion chamber fully assembled 800$ for the pair. .560 max lift

*comp cams xtreme fuel injection camshaft 260/270 lduration, .560/.555 lift at rocker arms with 1.6 ratio rockers (already have the 1.6 fulll rollers so if you guys figure this is unwise plz, take that in to consideration while showing a beter option), advertised 1200-5200 rpm range for a 350. i beleive all the xfi grinds are on a 113 lsa for ease of tunability too (correct me if im wrong). 320$

*already have the 22#/hr injectors in it would these suffice for a healthy 305 tpi or should i look in to 24-30 lbers.

*now for the intake this is where i lack knowledge, i would guess from what i've read on here that i would need to port the base and plenum, and probably go with a set of slp runners and port them too (this is just from other builds i've read up on. Would this be fairly efficient if i were to do it like that or will the manifold still be a big bottleneck? another 350$.

so probably just over 1500$ for the heads, cam, runners and a cam install kit.

any other suggestions for parts or other upgrades that i would need to make would be appreciated

btw my current mods are, 22# injectors, expoxied airfoil, k&n filters, coolant bypass, edelbrock longtube headers, borla 3in catback, afpr, full msd ignition, jegs brand 1.6 full rollers rockers.

Re: tpi 305 mild build

Good exhaust system and some tuning and you'd be good to go.
I'm building another LB9 for my 40 chevy now, and I'm using the SR Torquer heads, LT4 stock cam, 1.6 rr, and good headers. I think it'll run good for my needs. The stock 91 LB9 runs pretty good. Most people think it's a 350.
I've never had a problem with a 305.
Not nearly the power, but for what they are, their fine, and people will give them to you.

Re: tpi 305 mild build

You mentioned eldelbrock longtubes as a current mod....I didn't know they made longtube headers....unless you misprinted.

Sounds like a decent set-up..L98 aluminums could be a cheap option too...and while there would be alittle bore shrouding they would transfer over to a 350 or so down the road...can be ported for decent flow numbers.

Otherwise just figure in for a good tune and I think it could be a solid set-up.

Re: tpi 305 mild build

yah i'll just have to be able to drive it from my place to the dyno shop for that so thats no big deal.

i think since im maf it will be drivable enuff at a low speed to get me to the dyno tuning shop.

Re: tpi 305 mild build

sounds like it should turn out a nice 305...

you might soon be replacing that T5 with something else though

a T-56 and some 3.73/4.10's would make a hell of a difference in the cars performance as well
