Fromwhat I know,90 was the last year for the LO3 in the Trans Am.The LB9,was the base engine beginning in 91.However,the L03 was the base in the 91-92 Formulas.

1989 was the last year for the L03 in the Trans Am. When the TPI engines went speed density, they also became the standard engines in Trans Ams (and 90 IROCs and 91/92 Z28s too)

My 1992 Trans AM owners manual shows that both engines were available in 1992 TBI and TPI.

1993 was the intro to the fourth gen and that's another message board.

In 1990, the standard engine in Trans Ams was the 305 TPI, with the 350 TPI as an option. This was also true for 1991 and 1992.
End of story.

That is because the manual is for all firebirds. The 1990 Pontiac brochure says the Formula could have any of the V-8's, while the T/A was only availible with the TPI motors.

Because it's a cone shaped one on the end of the rubber ducting in place of the air canister.
