ZZ4 cam with no EGR??
Anyone running the ZZ4 cam with no EGR valve?
Just wondering if I'm asking for any problems by not running the EGR with this cam. I guess I'm a little hestitant to remove since I had such bad detonation problems early on with the TPI.

I am teetering back and forth with eliminating it with tuning or plumbing it from the #8 header tube like Kevin did when I install the ZZ4 heads/cam on my '87.

I am running the ZZ3 cam with Edelbrock RPM heads (#6089). They do not have the exhaust crossover passage. So I unhooked my EGR and it is just there as a blockoff.
For my setup, it runs fine. No detonation. Stock 1987 PROM too!
I don't live in a HOT climate, so that helps my situation out. As well the aluminum heads are a bit better than cast for detonation.
Perhaps something else is causing your detonation problems.
Mark.

I believe the main source of the detonation was the TBI cam that was left in after the conversion to TPI. The TBI cam has a very small lobe separation of 104. I believe TPI's like at least 112.
It's not detonating now after the EGR and chip timing tables were greatly altered, and now too much timing is removed because I have false knock now from rod bearings knocking, hence the reason for the rebuild now.
What I'd like is to take care of the toiming in the chip after the rebuild and get rid of the EGR, just putting tons of carbon deposits in the intake! And hopefully the TPI matched cam will help also.
Thanks
