Fuel injector questions
Fuel injector questions
Ok, here's whats going on. I have a real bad injector leakdown problem. As soon as I turn the key off all the fuel pressure is gone. So I'm going to have a little time and money soon and want your opinion. Should I get the Accel injectors that are like 200 bucks or should I buy new Bosch ones that are like 500 bucks. If I get the Accel ones do I need to get a new PROM? Or do I get the Ford ones that I know I need a new PROM for? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Accel 22# injectors? Go for it. The SVO 24# will need a custom chip, because in our cars with higher pressure they flow more like 26# injectors.

I'm just wondering if using a different type of injector is going to hurt me. I have the Bosch factory type of injector now. Why did they go with 2 different injectors from the factory? If I can do this without a new chip that would be cool.

You can buy stock replacement BOSCH or LUCAS injectors from a local parts store like O'reillys but you'll probably change your mind after you price them!! I priced mine the other day, thinkin', "hey aftermarket injectors like Accel and SVO would be more expensivie"!! WRONG!! You can get the Accels for $230 from Summit and the SVO's for $220!! The stock replacement LUCAS injectors are $50 EACH ($400 for 8) and the the BOSCH are somethin' like $65 EACH ($520 for 8)
Jay,
Don't overlook the obvious: Cruzin' Performance
Cleaned and flow-matched injectors are about $80.00, and are probably a lot closer to a balanced set than anything you'll get out of a box.

If I do that then I send them my injectors, right? I don't want to spend some money and have the part crap out on be in a couple of months. My car has 116 thou on it now. Plus I've heard it happen to a couple of guys.

Jay,
The service at Cruzin' takes about two working days plus transit time. I would highly recommend them, since I've used the service more than once. The money you can save in fuel alone can pay for the service in less than a year.
I had an engine with 110,000-plus miles and had the service. I'd do it again without hesitation. The injectors come back better than new. As long as you follow instructions, you shouldn't have any problems for a long time. If you fail to change the fuel filter and flush the lines before installing the injectors (as recommended), you might slug an injector with sediment and garbage right away, but this can happen with brand new injectors just as easily.
Pulling the injectors has to happen in either case, but the extra few days at Cruzin' plus the cash you'll save can more than pay for an AFPR and plenum porting (as long as everything is apart, there's no better time for the upgrades). You can do the AFPR and porting work yourself and it will cost you nothing but your time. Couple that with cleaned, balanced injectors, and your engine can really wake up.

I have a set of bosch 24 lb. blue tops and I don't think they are any better then those other injectors out there. Only reason I got em' was because I got them used from a guy that had them flow tested and cleaned (they were used). Besides, mine are also noisy as hell TICK TICK TICK !!! Just an idea also... Make sure that it is definately your injectors leaking down and not your pressure regulator leaking. If you can clamp off the return line to the fuel tank and the rate of dropage slows, then its probably a leaking press. reg. Mine leaks off in about 5 minutes all the way down to like 10 or 15. Only thing that it changes is how fast it starts if you insert the key and quickly turn the ignition. If you wait for it to prime and bring up pressure it starts fine... Good luck!
I've clamped off the return line and it still drops to zero quickly. I've had the injectors out before, thats easy. If my car sits more than 5 minutes then it starts like crap. You have to crank it then stop, then crank some more to get it to start.

Just a lil FYI, there are 3 things that hold pressure besides stuff like hoses and orings
The injectors
The pressure regulator
The fuel pump
A worn pump will allow bleed down, been there, done that. In other words, dont be convinced its the injectors doing it, although thats the likely suspect.

Does anyone know if Cruzin' Performance has some sort of "core" exchange deal? Meaning, could I get a set from him without sending mine, then send mine after his are installed? Trying not to be without my toy if at a ll possible.....

make sure it's your injector before anything else or you will have the same problem with new $500 injectors. If you know it's your injector try tpis.com. I got mine from gmperformance and stay with 22's. If you need I can give you the proper ohms for your injectors.
