Do I need a chip?

Here are the mods I'm going to do: Edlebrock 1 5/8" headers, flowmaster custom exhaust, 1.6 full roller rockers, and slp intake runners. My car is an 87 T/A with tpi 305. I dont know much about computers in cars, but if I do need a chip could you recommend one. thanks

Need one? No, your mods are not serious enough to warrant NEEDING a new eprom. In fact, your stock memcal is probably too rich as it is.

However, you might benefit from a "custom made" eprom that you burn yourself. This would be the only thing I would recommend.

The advantage is that your car is still, for all intents and purposes, still stock. Learning to burn an eprom on a basically stock engine is the BEST place to start IMO. And, if you plan future mods, then you will know EXACTLY what to do to make it optimal.

The people that have the biggest problem in learning how to burn their own eprom are the guys who make extensive modifications to their engine such that they NEED an eprom. They don't have any starting point and they are too "green" to tackle the task of making a custom eprom for such a radically different setup.

Go to the DIY PROM board and click on Traxion's "PROM Burning" link on the top of the board.
