Intake Manifold Q
Intake Manifold Q
I am currently porting out my TPI intake manifold. I have completely eliminated all emissions on the car. I am planning to block the exhast passage into the manifold at the head enterance. The exhast gas always flows into the plenum and through small holes into each passage all the time. Has anyone had any problems running in the winter with no exhast gas flow through the intake? Once the car warms up it will run fine but is it a pain to keep running until it warms up? And 2nd how much disruption do those small holes cause and should I plug them? Just wanting to know what other people have found.

I am no expert but if you disable the EGR you will get an SES light. If you still wish to do it blocking it off at the head may not be the best thing. Call TPIS and get an EGR block off plate for about $9 and just remove your EGR and put plate in it's place.
I plan to disable the EGR in the ECM. If I only block the EGR then there is still a constant flow of exhast coming into my intake via the small drill holes into each passage from the underside of the intake. I would like to eliminate all exhast gas coming into my intake air for better performance.

Fel Pro makes an intake gasket that blocks this for you. It is #1204. You dont have to go through the trouble of filling them just use this gasket and it will take care of it for you.

The EGR isn't all bad. It only works when the throttle is partly closed, under WOT the EGR isn't even "on". It helps your car run more efficently, saves you money at the gas pump and doesn't hurt your car's performance at all.
