Is it worth it to swap a TBI for TPI?

Ok, I've got the good ole TBI in my 92 RS v8. I don't have much money to spend on modding it right now, and have some other small fixes yet to do (Got some leaks, somebody says my clutch feels strange) But is the TPI a major upgrade from TBI? or will it just end up costing a lot and being a pain in the butt more than it will add to performance? Also, any ideas on cost?

Yes its a major upgrade. Check the tech article on this site for an idea.

My dad converted to TPI on his 92 RS and gained 17 HP and 70 TQ at the wheels...

I've been considering the same swap on my 91 chevy truck. I've got an almost complete tpi setup except for a set of fuel rails that I could use.

I'd like to see an article about reusing the tbi wiring and adapting it to run the tpi.

I'm the one that just did the swap on the '92 RS.

It took awhile, but I did the research ahead of time so when I was ready I had everything I needed.

I collected everything for about $350.

The actual time to switch the hard parts took 2 1/2 hours, the wiring a little more.
I used the TBI harness and modified it (you have to have both diagrams TBI & TPI and study them very carefully making notes).
Under the dash is a little more complicated,
however it just takes time and patience the TBI uses a speed buffer to transfer the VSS output to the computer and the speedo & cruise control. The TPI VSS feeds directly into the puter and then out to the speedo & cruise. So, you have to move some wires around but if you study the diagrams it's not difficult. It does help if you have had pryor experience. If you don't like a challenge don't try it.

Some of the TBI wires had to be extended to reach the components(I got these from a pick-a-part yard). E-mail me if you're serious I'll help all I can.

I'm in the middle of procrastinating before I convert my '80 to TPI. Still sweating bullets about finding a wiring harness, and a fuel system... All in all, it will probably cost about $1000 MORE to get it in and working, and all I'll end up doing is taking away from the currently flawless reliability of my carb in exchange for 2 more mpg and some torque.
p.s. want a TPI cheap?
