the best way to get the socket out would be to go to a parts store and get one of those magnets that are on a bendy shaft.
the shaft needs to be very flexible. stick it down the runner and get the socket. it shouldn't have dropped down into the cylinder, the valves don't open that much..

I tried using one of those and it didnt work..I still have to remove the runners though.

Yeah, unless you were using a really small socket it couldn't have made it past the valve. With the runner off i'd imagine it'll be easier to fish out though.

Been there, done that...
if the magnet doesn't work, try one of those 'claw' type flexible tools. The socket I dropped was too big for the magnet to pull up the runner w/o taking it off. Bad thing is it took awhile, since you're doing it blind. Don't waste your day, if it doesn't come out, pull the runner.

Do this....
Get one of those small telescoping magnets. It looks like an antenna from an AM/FM radio with a very small but powerful magnet on the end. CUT OFF the magnet. Now buy yourself some very small O.D. tubing and duct tape the magnet to the end. The hose will flex as much as you need it to
I used this trick to fetch a socket out of my transmission (FWD on a Celebrity - TH125C).
