High Ratio rocker questions

I was thinking about putting a bigger cam in my car, but I am very limited on cash and resources. Then it hit me, "Go up to 1.6 ratio rockers." I could get more lift out of my stock cam. I know I will not get the duration, but it could help some, right?

My question is, what all do I have to replace? Springs too?

How much would be my gross lift with a stock cam in my car? (see sig)

Any suggestions on brand and type of rockers? (Roller tipped my be an option.)

Any installation tips that are commonly over looked in upgrades to rocker arms? (additional parts to change out, clearances, stuff like that)

Any one ever do this? And any/how much gain?

I know, I sound clueless, but if this is an economical way to squeeze more out of my ride and can be done in my carport, COOL!

Thanks,

Chris

Your stock springs are good to about .480" lift,so with the stock L98 cam you should be ok.If you go with the 1.6s you should feel it in the seat of your pants.

I put Comp Cams Magnum 1.6 roller tip rocker arms in a year ago. It is really straight forward. The most difficult part is getting the vlavle lash reset, but if you know where TDC is, you should be just fine. I replaced the pushrods at the same time, and I later had the lifters replaced. It is a good idea to do at least the pushrods and probably the lifters as well, cause the metal develops wear patterns and it is good to start fresh and not run the risk of ruining your new parts.

I noticed a difference in my car, although it is not going to beat you up or anything like that. I don't how much it actually added as far as hp goes.

Oh yeah, make sure you get the self aligning rockers.

Matt

The cam specs for a 1987 L98 are: 0.404"/.415"(lift at valve) and 202°/207°(dur @ 0.050). With the 1.6 rockers your lift goes to: 0.431"/0.442". Hardly worth the bother IMO, especially when the money spent could be put to use removing restrictions upstream from the valves.
